Sadie’s Highlander opens with a bang as the entire MacDara clan is transported through time, extracted from a fierce 10th century battle by protective goddesses, in order to keep safe the sacred Heartstone. The first person Alec MacDara meets is Dwyn MacKay.

“I am guardian and tutor to all the druids here. I shall see to it that the MacDara clan does well and continues their legacy to the goddesses and humanity as the protectors of the Heartstone—the sacred stone of hope and love itself.”

“And this place is?” Alec asked, still squinting against the blinding light.

“Twenty-first century North Carolina. Welcome to the future, m’lad.”

In the fifteen years since their arrival in North Carolina, Alec MacDara and his three brothers have become extremely successful, parleying their past into the creation of modern theme park. Alec is the chairman of Highland Life and Legends.

Forget the roller coaster. Where do I get a ticket to ride him? Sadie Williams peered over the tops of her sunglasses, inching them lower to get an unobstructed view of the man currently flexing his assets. Damn. What an import. I bet he’s one of Scotland’s finest.

What an enticing picture Alec makes to an ogling Sadie Williams, with his “modified kilt, a tighter, sexier version, more like a gladiator’s short toga.” Sadie’s sister Delia runs a movie business: the sisters are at the theme park to take a meeting with Alec MacDara. Fiercely protective of his family’s legacy and the treasure within, Alec has never permitted filming at the park but over the past months, he’s been inundated with charming, irresistible emails from a persistent production assistant.

“I assume yer the writer of the emails?” Alec asked, his deep brogue melting into what could only be described as a wonderfully audible caress.

“Uhm . . . yes, I am.” Sadie ignored Delia’s irritated huff and extended her own hand.

An “irritated huff” is just the beginning for Delia. Vain and capricious, she is furious that Alec is not falling at her Louis Vuitton clad feet. How dare Alec be cordial to her sister and ignore her charms?

“Just let me do the talking. None of your stupid jokes or idiotic attempts at humor. Keep your mouth shut, your back to the wall, and take notes like a good little mute assistant or this meeting will be your last. Understand?”

Hearing Delia freely abuse Sadie brings to mind Cinderella toiling mightily to serve her demanding step-sisters. Alec will have none of it. He makes a non-negotiable demand that Sadie be his liaison with the film company.

Alec rounded the table, stood directly beside Sadie, and held out his hand. “Ye will be assigned to me for the extent of the six weeks of filming. Private quarters at MacDara Keep will be provided for yer comfort. Ye’ll want for nothing.”

Say yes Sadie! But Sadie is apprehensive about MacDara’s offer—what’s his angle? Delia, in her trademark vicious fashion, ignores Sadie’s worries.

“Are you that dense? For some strange reason the man wants you. Must have a fetish for fat girls or something. Consider yourself lucky. You. With a man like that? Six weeks of riding a prize Scottish stud. You should thank me—and whatever sex god that decided to drop him in your lap.”

Maybe Delia has a point—not! Sadie stiffens her resolve and negotiates on her own behalf. In return for accepting Alec’s offer, she demands that her sister put her on the team of screen-writers. Sadie’s dream is to be a screen-writer and this is her chance to make her dreams come true. Any guesses on who the real-life hero of her screenplay will be? Sadie’s Highlander is a lusty, luscious story—and the icing on the cake is that it’s the first of Maeve Greyson’s Highland Protectors series. More men in kilts to come!
