What Is Your Earliest Shipping Memory?

Shipping—the act of supporting two fictional characters in a romantic relationship—is something you may not even know you're doing when you're doing it. It can manifest in any way from simply watching a show just for your favorite couple to writing fanfic or creating fan art. As romance readers, it may be something we don't even realize we're doing, especially if we've been shipping for a long time.

In true Throwback Thursday fashion, what is your earliest shipping memory? Did it start with a TV show where you could see the UST (unresolved sexual tension), but didn't know what it was called? Was it before you started reading romance, when you were reading a book and wanted the couples to get together with every fiber of your being?

Tell us about your first shipping memory!

I'm not even sure if it was Superboy and Supergirl. But around four grade I was all into comic books, buying them for the romance angle<g>. Always hoping that they find their true love.

Han and Leia in the second Star Wars film. 40 years later, I am still delighted at those two, though so sad about how it all ended, in film and in real life.

Maybe Ariel and Eric?! Pretty sure Disney princess movies are the reason I've loved romance as long as I can remember.

Rachel/Tobias in Animorphs when I was 9. Though it later morphed into Rachel/Marco. I'm trying to remember if I shipped Stacey with anyone in the BSC books, but I don't think they ever gave her a good enough love interest.

@HeatherWaters, oh yeah, Disney probably ruined me for life. I was always matching up my barbies and everything too. BUT, Probably something very early with wanting characters from a book to get together. I think I remember my mom reading Cathering, Called Birdy to me when I was young, and I wanted with all my heart for her to get together with one of her suitors!

As a kid, it was Anne Shirley and Gilbert. As an adult, it was Pacey and Joey.

Yes, I was an adult and watched it every week.

@Jessie E -- Yes, Rachel/Tobias! I don't think I read the series long enough to get into Rachel/Marco.

When I was 11, I was OBSESSED with Titanic and Jack/Rose, and I spent a lot of time on my family's very first computer researching everything ever posted about both the movie and the real ship. First time I was ever part of a fandom was in 1999 for Roswell. Lots o' time spent on message boards for tat and then later for Veronica Mars too. Good times.

And @Jen Wattley just told me her first ship was probably Kimberly/Tommy from Power Rangers, which...I shipped that too! Wow, I have a serial shipping problem...
