Have You Ever Taken Off Work/School to Read?

Woman reading in the living room

Tuesdays are great days... they're not Mondays and they happen to be release day for those looking for their next big read! Every month there's a new “big book” for us to glom on and makes us want to call off work... but have you ever?

If you have, what was the book? Why did you want to take the day to read it? Would you/have you done it more than once?

Tell me about it in the comments!

In college, I skipped a morning class to finish the final Harry Potter book. I regret nothing.

I constantly WISH that I could take work/school off to finish a book. I'm more likely to stay up all night to finish something than I am to stay home to start something!

I've done it more than once (although not recently) and I'm not ashamed. Sometimes you just need a mental health day and there's no better mental health day than one spent with a great book.

@LoriK, Totally agree! I'm more likely to cancel weekend plans to have mental health days than anything else!

Years ago, I called in sick to stay home and finish reading one of Julia Quinn's books, most likely When He Was Wicked. I told myself I hadn't taken a sick day in a really long time and it was the slow part of the year anyhow.

When I was in college, I stopped reading for pleasure completely. I would let it consume all of my time and not do my course work.

Now, I stay up late reading through the night, if it's a really good book. If I can't manage to finish it that way, I have called in sick for work. Not often enough to feel guilty about it, though.

Have been late to work or missed work all together due to reading, fallen asleep at my desk because of the siren call of "just a few more pages" at 2 am! Was "talked to" about reading at my desk (kindle app for iPhone, greatest app ever!). I have even had to apologize to God for coming to mass late with no makeup after ugly crying at the end of A Man Called Ove! Books, the best thing ever!
