Ship: Kara/James (Karolsen)

TV Recap: Supergirl 1x18 Captain's Log Karolsen

The highly anticipated Supergirl x Flash episode arrived and it did not disappoint! Full disclosure, if we were on another Earth, I’d be quite content to watch a show full of the interactions between Kara and Barry and Supergirl and Flash, with no other interference from any of the side characters from either of their respective shows!  I adored all of their scenes together and wanted more. But, alas, we are on this Earth so I just have to be satisfied with this one awesome pair-up which, as cute as it was, actually served to help move forward our favorite ‘ship, Karolsen!

This week saw the return of Livewire and the emergence of Siobahn’s alter ego, Silver Banshee. Siobahn was taken to the DEO to try to figure out how she survived her fall and whether she was an alien like Supergirl and saw Livewire imprisoned while she was there.  She later used her abilities to break Livewire out of the DEO and the two villains teamed up to finally rid the world of their mutual enemies—Cat Grant, Kara Danvers and Supergirl.

Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash, having moved fast enough to inadvertently end up on an alternate Earth from his home Earth within the Multiverse, comes onto the scene just in time to save Kara Danvers after Siobahn used the same sonic scream that saved her own life last week to try to kill Kara by forcing her out a window.  It didn’t take Flash long to realize her was far from home and that Kara didn’t necessarily need his help.  Still though, watching the two of them geek out over having another superhero friend to race against and eat all of the calories with, etc. was great. The best part of Barry’s presence, though, was watching how affected James was by watching Kara with Barry.  Our boy was not happy to be on the outside looking in! And everyone but Kara noticed, even though James was doing the very least to try to hide it. Winn, Barry and Lucy all commented on his obvious stress.  Good for Mr. I-Need-Some-Time! And, in a move we’ve been waiting for, Lucy finally let James go, admitting they were never meant to be and gave him the green light to go for Kara!  YES! By far, my favorite Lucy scene of the series!

TV Recap Supergirl 1x18 Kidnapped Cat

An initial team up between Supergirl and Flash, that Kara admittedly rushed into in her haste to try to regain the trust of National City, ended in failure, but, thankfully, Barry was able to replicate some tech he’s previously used on his world to shield the heroes from Silver Banshee’s screams. The two, with the help of the citizens of National City, were able to defeat Livewire and Silver Banshee, before they followed through on their threat to kill the kidnapped Cat Grant. After they were safely imprisoned, Barry figured out a way to combine his powers with Kara’s in order to return him to his Earth.  Before he let Kara give him the push he needed to break the barrier, he gave her the push she needed to take the next step with James. EEEEE!!!

Kara invited James to her loft and used a Multiverse metaphor to work up to letting James know how she felt about him.

James: “Kara, what are you saying?”
Kara: “No more saying, I’m so much better at doing.”

And with that, Kara took charge and pulled James into a kiss! EEEEEE…IT’S ALL FINALLY HAPPENING! She laid QUITE a kiss on him and stepped back, expectant, waiting to see what he thought. And James had no reaction at all.  None. Kara, initially confused, didn’t know whether that was a good or a bad thing. Until James abruptly walked out, without a word. HUH? Kara soon realized that James was in a trance, as were all of the other citizens of National City. Turns out Non’s long awaited Myriad plan has begun. UGH!!!!

-Winn and Siobhan are most likely no longer a thing after she used her powers against him in her quest to kill Kara, even after her pleaded with her to let him help her.

-Siobhan’s powers come from a curse put on her family many generations ago by a Banshee

-Hank and Alex were not  in the episode at all but Kara did mention to Barry that she doesn’t currently know where her sister is.

Memorable Quotes:

Just a note, I could’ve made this entire post all of Barry’s quotes from the ep.  Basically, everything he said and did was memorable and fantastic!  Additionally, there is no way to adequately capture all of James’ sighs, huffs and side-eyes but they were pretty awesome and memorable, too!

Cat to Kara: “If you want James, you’re going to have to make a power move.  Make yourself unavailable, make him jealous”

Flash: “How did you do that?”
Supergirl: “I’m Supergirl”
Flash: “You’re who now?”
Supergirl: “Who are you?”
Flash: “I’m the Flash”
Supergirl: “The who now?”

James to Barry: “So you’re a superhero, too?  That’s cool….I guess.”

Cat: “All four of you standing there, doing nothing, you look like the attractive, yet non-threatening, racially diverse cast of a CW show.”  (To Barry) “Who are you?”
Kara: “He’s my cousin
James: “My cousin”
Winn: “My cousin”

Lucy: “I know that look.  I used to look at you with her and have that very same sneer…but much cuter.”
James: “I was thinking and…'sneer'…pssh….come on…..allergies”
Lucy: “Piece of advice, if you are holding back with her because of me, don’t…..the truth is…we were never gonna work, were we?”

Barry to Livewire and Silver Banshee: “Why don’t you step away from the nice lady, come over here and we’ll settle this like women.” (Shocked look from Kara) “What?  There’s more of you here!”

Barry: “You remember before when I told you to take things slow?  That’s good advice for a superhero…lousy advice for two people who really like each other. Maybe it’s time to speed things up.”
Kara: “Maybe.”

Charting the Course: James and Kara have gone from being good friends and allies to one step from being more to both being busy with trying other relationships to barely being friends to both admitting their love, but not to each other to right where we are now…on the verge of it all finally happening!  So, of course Non and his season long revenge scheme had to come in and ruin it!

Next Stop: Kara has admitted her feelings and acted on them but James was not given the opportunity to accept or deny them.  We now need to see how this is going to play out. If Myriad had not happened, how would James have responded? Will what happens next make Kara regret what she said and did?  Will James even remember what happened? I have no idea what’s going to happen next but I am here for it!
