The Summer’s Gonna Blaze: New Adult Best Bets for June 2015

Burn by Allie Juliette Mousseau

New Adult June is the start of summer! This month’s picks are sure to raise the temperature. Whether it’s a second chance story or characters that hit you right in the gut, these picks make you want to stretch right out and read away.

Burn by Allie Juliette Mousseau is a second chance romance story that brings on the feels. The second book in a standalone series, the premise is around men who forged a strong brotherhood, after extremely painful pasts. Liam and Quinn fell in love when they were teenagers, one night tears it all apart, and circumstances bring them together again, years later. Can the years they were apart wipe away the memories of that one devastating night? My emotions were all over the place and I couldn’t put it down!

Beautiful Sacrifice by Jamie McGuire is the third book in the Maddox Brothers series. Taylor Maddox knows what he wants and goes after it. Using that familiar Maddox charm, this hotshot firefighter uses his skills to befriend Falyn, the girl who keeps him at arm’s length. What ensues is a slow burn that erupts into a blaze.

For The Win by Brenna Aubrey

For The Win by Brenna Aubrey details the consequences after a one-night stand at Comic-Con—yes, you read that right. I loved this book! It was quirky, hilarious and had some major angst. April doesn’t know that her new sexy boss is the mysterious man, she hooked up with at Comic-Con, but Jordan sure knows. Amid all the secrets, their attraction sizzles but, what happens when real feelings develop?

Moonlight on Nightingale Way by Samantha Young finished the On Dublin Street series...or did it? Logan and Grace have an awkward first meeting, but fate steps in and these friends-to-lovers story finishes off the series with a bang. Fans of the series, rejoice: a novella will be released so the end hasn’t quite happened yet.

A Pound of Flesh by Sophie Jackson is a forbidden romance between a prison lit tutor and an inmate. Their flirtation begins in jail, but once Carter is freed, the temptation to take it past just flirtation heats up. Pasts are revealed and the action ramps up, when their histories collide. This addictive story is one hot ride.

Never Let You Go: A Modern Fairytale by Katy Regnery is based on the story of Hansel and Gretel. Two foster siblings, Holden and Griselda grew up quickly under the hands of their brutal captor. My soul cried when only one managed to escape. Ten years later, they meet again under very different circumstances. Follow their journey as these young loves fight for their future and each other.

Blue by H.J. Bellus

Blue by H.J. Bellus is also based on a fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast to be exact, and features Blue and Tuck. Tuck is a loner but plays on the football team. Blue is a headstrong cheerleader who won’t take no for an answer. They push and pull but the pull to each other proves to be stronger. Blue might just be the one to pull Tuck out of his funk. (and yes, I lol’d as I wrote that)

Song of David by Amy Harmon is a stand-alone story, but it’s highly recommended that the Law of Moses be read first. Amy Harmon writes beautiful stories and this is no exception. Be prepared to laugh, cry and not be able to get anything done as you read this unique story. Tag and Millie are two inspiring, strong characters who must overcome some heart-wrenching tribulations to be together.

Scorched by Jennifer L. Armentrout has Armentrout’s trademark spunk and steaminess. This is a love/hate kind of story, as our main characters, Tanner and Andrea, are constantly battling it out. Scorched deals with many real topics such as drinking, self-esteem, and depression in a way that doesn’t come across as a PSA. These issues are highlighted realistically and it makes it so relatable. These two characters deliver a story that goes beyond physicality.

These reads are sure to heat up your summer reading! What book are you tackling first?
