Sons of Anarchy Series Finale (!!!) Discussion Thread

Sons of Anarchy Season 7 banner**Spoiler Alert: This post contains SPOILERS for all aired episodes of Sons of Anarchy, including the second episode in the two-part SERIES FINALE, “Papa's Goods.”

So—it's over. We've seen the last of Jax and his SOA. Jax is gone, as are so many others (sob!), and while we knew Sons of Anarchy was based on Hamlet, we weren't sure it was going to be quite as bloody (plus Hamlet didn't exactly kill Gertrude himself, so there you go).

Were you surprised by how the show went out?

Did everyone get what they deserved?

Okay so I know this probably isn't a popular opinion but:

Well, I just discovered this show about a season and a half ago. The reason that I waited so long was because I figured this show would just be a bunch of gang-like killing and pretty much every stereotype I could think of with regards to MC life. Then… I sat down and watched the first few episodes of season one and I was hooked. I was sooo wrong!! This show demonstrated a different side to that lifestyle while still keeping true to a lot of it. I was amazed at the line they walked and I binge watched it all in just a week. Unfortunately, instead of the show evolving with that theme throughout, it ultimately became just what I originally thought it would be. I thought it was really unfortunate because they really had something special that I think spoke to a lot of people in the first few seasons. I know that they wanted to go with the hamlet theme, but to me that was the wrong choice. For me it went from being extraordinary to something predictable and ordinary. Did we really need it to devolve like that? Couldn’t we just read some history about MC gangs? I don’t know… it disappointed me. It went from making me see a different side to that lifestyle and being one of my favorite shows to me just skipping through the last season waiting for Jax to kill Gemma.

Like @TerriL, I binge-watched the first season and a half, and then it started to fall off for me. I did keep up with what happened, even if I didn't watch myself (I have no idea why), and I think it's interesting that Jax veered so far off the course of what his father wanted, and yet tried to right things at the end, and took out the source of the problem (himself). Of course I feel bad for his kids, because I do that.

I felt sorry for Jax. His real problem was his lunatic mother. If he had managed to get away from her his life would have been so much better.

Considering Jax's path, I knew he had to go out the way he did. He did so many things right and so many more things wrong. I will miss him *sob* I feel the sorriest for Juice. All he ever wanted was to be SAMCRO. Ironically, after he died, Jax was able to get the anti-black bylaw abolished. And the homeless woman being the angel of death!! So many feels. And so many great actors thoughout the show.

The ending was definitely bittersweet, Jax going out on his fathers bike with his angel of death near by and his sons safe and way... so heartbreaking. I liked the ending and felt it was just for everything that happened.
