Little Dragon Boy: Paranormal Romance Best Bets for December 2014

Hot Blooded by Donna GrantAngels (and dragons?) we have heard on high! Shifters and vampires of all sorts await us in this month’s roundup of Paranormal romances that are worth a second glance!

Dragons!

Hot Blooded by Donna Grant

Laith was powerless not to respond.

Their eyes met again, held. He felt an uncontrollable, undeniable pull to this woman and he fought against it. Hard. It was more than just lust. This…feeling…was on another plane all together…

DARKNESS AND SECRETS SURROUND HIM

His name is Laith. To most, he’s known as the owner of a local pub near Dreagan. But little do his patrons know that beneath his handsome, charming exterior Laith has the heart and soul of a Dragon King—one who wields control by keeping his friends close and his enemies closer. Until a beautiful, mysterious stranger enters the picture, and sets his whole world on fire…

SHE IS HIS SALVATION

To learn the truth about her dead father, Iona has returned to Scotland only to learn that she’s part of an ancient pact with Dreagan—one that will threaten the fragile peace with the Dragon Kings. Gorgeous, sly Iona isn’t like anyone Laith has ever met before...and she harbors a secret that others would kill to possess. Will she complete him—or destroy him? Passion always comes with a price…

I pick up Donna Grant books sporadically—which does lead to a little bit of confusion, BUT when I do pick up a Grant book (whether it’s featuring her Dark Kings or druids), I find myself totally wrapped up in her world. I got hooked with an excerpt of Hot Blooded (plus, that lyrics to the song of the same name just play over and over in my head) earlier this month. For those of you who can’t wait until December 30, the book has been released as a serial and you can almost the whole thing before the full book is released—and you won’t be disappointed whichever path you choose!

Dragon Her Back by Susannah ScottDragon Her Back by Susannah Scott

How To Claim Your Dragon...
As the head of security of Vegas's Crown Jewel casino?and its hidden dragonshifter sanctuary?ice dragon Darius Dachien commands respect. Unfortunately, that respect isn't always reciprocated. In fact, when it comes to the stunning Mei Chen, hostility might be a better word. Which makes things even harder for Darius, since Mei is his dragon mate. Without her, his dragon form is fading fast...and once lost, will be gone forever. Mei can't deny the fierce chemistry that simmers between them. If Darius were ever to discover who?or rather, what?she really is, she wouldn't just lose him, but her place with the dragonshifters. The moment Mei's past comes crashing into her present, she realizes her time for secrets has ended. Now she must reveal her true self...and risk both her life and her heart with the one man who could destroy her.

I’m really starting to love dragons! They’re a new find for me, and Scott’s Dragon Her Back, is another great addition. These lovers find themselves on borrowed time as Darius’s greatest “enemy” is also fated to be his greatest love. Okay, not greatest enemy, but hostility abounds between these two—and really, we all know under all that bluster is a whole lot of chemistry!

Dream Lovers!

Marked by Rebecca Zanetti

Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life...

Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he's worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice...

I. Loved. This. Book. How crazy would it be if you realized the man you met in your dream world as a child (pretty much your whole life) was real!? You’d freak out! Especially when he comes to kidnap you. Janie and Zane have to find a difficult and treacherous path to happily ever after, but it is so worth it, my friends!

Revenant by Larissa IoneDemonica!

Revenant by Larissa Ione

HELL HATH NO FURY . . .

For five thousand years, Revenant believed he was alone in the world, a fallen angel beyond any redemption. Now he finds he has a twin brother who had all the light and love Revenant was denied. Caught in a tug of war between Heaven and Hell, he must weigh his thirst for revenge against his desire for a mysterious female named Blaspheme-a female whose very origins could deliver him into salvation . . . or destruction.

LIKE AN ANGEL SCORNED

Blaspheme has a deadly secret: she's the forbidden offspring of an angel and a fallen angel. Hunted by both heavenly and satanic forces, she has survived only by laying low and trusting no one. When Revenant claims he can save them both, how can she possibly believe him? But the powerful angel is persistence incarnate and for Blaspheme, there's no place she can hide in Heaven or Hell where he won't find her . . .

Our blogger, Tiffany Tyer, in her first look of Revenant, referred to him as the bad twin, the dark side of the coin of his brother, Reaver. If it’s fun to watch the mighty fall, wait until you see this redemption story as told in only the way Ione can.

Sentinels!

Blood Assassin by Alexandra Ivy

OUT OF THE SHADOWS

At six-foot-three and two-hundred-fifty pounds, Fane is a natural born guardian. A flawless mix of muscled perfection and steely precision, he has devoted years of his life to protecting a beautiful necromancer. But after she found love in the arms of another, Fane has been a warrior adrift. He swears allegiance only to the Sentinels. And no woman will ever rule his heart again....

INTO THE FIRE

Not only a powerful psychic, Serra is that rare telepath who can connect to minds through objects. When the daughter of a high-blood businessman is kidnapped, Serra agrees to help. But when she stumbles onto a conspiracy involving secrets sects and ancient relics, her life is in mortal danger—and Fane is her only hope. Is the warrior willing to risk his body, his soul, and his heart, for Serra? Or will one last betrayal destroy them both?

Is anyone else crushing on this couple as much as I am? Serra is tired of Fane not noticing her, but oh how he has noticed her. This was my introduction to Alexandra Ivy, and you better believe I’ll be reading more of her.

Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire by Kerrelyn SparksCrouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks

New York Times bestselling author Kerrelyn Sparks delivers the exciting conclusion in the Love at Stake series, where a Marine-turned-vampire finds love with the shifter princess forbidden to him . . .

Russell wakes from a coma to find he's become a vampire. Now he has a thirst for revenge. Determined to hunt down the master vampire who turned him, he's used to working alone . . . until he meets Jia. She is after the same vampire for murdering her parents and insists she can help Russell on this mission. Reluctantly, he agrees, and sets up some ground rules:

Rule #1: Their partnership is strictly business. If he holds her a little too close . . . if she looks at him with those exotic eyes . . . well, that has to stop.

Rule #2: He's in charge. Jia isn't used to taking orders and questions every move he makes. So he stops her the only way he knows how.

Rule #3: Don't fall in love. But the kiss that was supposed to quiet her awakens something else in him . . . something forbidden. Because Jia is engaged. To someone else.

I’m sad to see this series go. Love at Stake’s How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire can be counted among my first romances. In saying goodbye to Dragonasti Inc. and friends, we get the story of Russell and his reluctant ally, Jia. Kerrelyn Sparks sends us off with her signature warmth, wit, and adventure.

Christmas with a Bite by Patricia A. Wolf

Sometimes the holidays totally bite... This Christmas, Mara Livingston is determined to start over. But as she's driving to her “new” home, a freak winter storm forces her off the road. Now she's stranded in the middle of nowhere. Then he shows up. And there's something strangely familiar about him... Connor Reese never expected to see Mara again. Nor is he prepared for the onslaught of emotions?including an unimaginable rush of desire?she stirs within him. Now he has a chance to claim the woman he's always wanted. Except, there are a couple of small details that Mara doesn't know. The first is that Connor is a vampire. And the second is that if his family finds out about Mara, she will most certainly be killed...

Vampires and non-vampires don’t mix is what we’ve learned in romancelandia, and yet they are always so deliciously thrown together—temptation is a wonderful thing. Wolf’s take on a Romeo and Juliet-esque pairing is short and sweet and the perfect light and heartwarming read for the holidays!

Firewall by Sonya ClarkScience Fiction!

Firewall by Sonya Clark

She was the only Magic Born to ever escape the Rangers. Now there's a ten-million-dollar bounty for her return.

Trancehacker Tuyet Caron could have left New Corinth for good, but instead uses her magic and risks her life on a daily basis to help the Magic Born. She's been careful to avoid capture, but a careless glance at a video camera brings her face to face with the Ranger who let her go.

Captain Dale Hayes let Tuyet walk away once, but he won't make that mistake again. When faced with the ultimate choice, however, he chooses her with barely a thought. But that also means siding with the Magic Born and becoming a fugitive in the eyes of the law.

Tuyet and Dale plan to flee, but are caught in a deadly riot that kills innocent people. Outraged, the pair vows to bring an end to the Magic Laws, regardless of what that means for their own safety.

Magic mixes perfectly with science fiction in Clark’s Firewall. Dale and Tuyet become fugitives and Clark explores themes of redemption, right and wrong, and humanity.

Werewolves!

Blood Moon by Lisa Kessler

One bite can change you. And one kiss can change your destiny...

Nadya Dalca has been handed a death sentence. She's been bitten by the last living genetically enhanced werewolf?part of the Nero Organization's disastrous Moonlight project. With the poisonous blood now coursing through her system and pushing her to the limits, it is only a matter of time before Nadya's fate is sealed...

Gareth Takoda told himself he couldn't get involved. Caught up in a maelstrom of grief and bitterness, he has been isolating himself from his Pack. But when he is charged with watching over Nadya's first transformation?or bear witness should it go horribly wrong?Gareth is torn further by unwanted desire and the need to protect what is his.

One kiss changes everything. One shattering, all-consuming kiss. And with it, Nadya and Gareth face either salvation...or death.

I have really enjoyed Kessler’s Moon series. When a book’s premise starts with “one kiss changes everything,” you know it’s a damn good kiss! Nadya is living on borrowed time, and Gareth turns tail and runs before he can be hurt by (i.e. lose) the one he loves—in this case his true mate, Nadya. These are both tropes we’ve seen before in the genre, but Kessler approaches them with a fresh voice and excitement.
