“We Have Men in Kilts”: Outlander’s Journey from Book to Screen Revealed!

Author Diana Gabaldon and showrunner Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica 2003) discuss the origin of Outlander as a television show (Hollywood was first keen to adapt the epic book series as a feature film) in a newly released behind-the-scenes video from Starz.

I think it's fair to say all of us book fans are waiting with bated breath to see whether the show can capture the books' magic, especially in the Jamie/Claire department. Are all these trailers and features relieving any of your concerns about a faithful adaptation?

Plus: News is coming out fast and furious as the series premiere grows ever nearer. In the next few weeks there'll be screenings of the pilot episode, “Sassenach,” at San Diego Comic Con (July 25 at 2:15 p.m. PT) and in major cities such as New York (H&H will be attending this one!) and Los Angeles, so we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for news coming out of those. Plus, it looks like fan sites Outlander TV News and Outlander Italy have uncovered the episode titles for the first 8 episodes (beware of SPOILERS if you haven't read the first book):

  • 1x01: “Sassenach”
  • 1x02: “Castle Leoch”
  • 1x03: “The Way Out”
  • 1x04: “The Gathering”
  • 1x05: “Rent”
  • 1x06: “The Garrison Commander”
  • 1x07: “The Wedding”
  • 1x08: “Both Sides Now”
