The Mindy Project: Think of All the Fellas That I Haven’t Kissed

Mindy and Danny have a moment on The Mindy ProjectIt can easily be said that Mindy Kaling's Mindy Lahiri on The Mindy Project is one of the most relatable characters on TV—or at least the most relatable one with all the shenanigans we wish we could do.

In last night's episode, “Christmas Party Sex Trap,” Mindy set up a Christmas party exclusively for the purpose of meeting her building crush, Cliff, and seducing him away from the mildly-crazy Heather. However, it's not the sparks with Cliff that had us gasping this episode, but all that chemistry just waiting to bubble over between Mindy and Danny, of course!

It all started with Danny's lackluster attempts to fulfill the office Secret Santa. Of course, he gave her office supplies...from their own office. Even we would find that unacceptable from someone like Danny. After Step 3 of Mindy's plan to snare Cliff backfires because Cliff leaves to talk to Heather, Mindy sits desolately in her office drinking wine from her bra—lots of shenanigans in planning the party led to this, you'll have to watch the episode to appreciate it!

Danny comes in to check on Mindy...and give her a proper Secret Santa gift. Mindy says “You said you didn't want to spend money on a Secret Santa, I shouldn't have expected a gift.” Danny's reply? Sometimes the best gifts don't cost anything. Then he proceeds to bust a move to the song that “was the first thing about you that ever really annoyed me.” We think that's totally code for the first thing he LOVED about her.

An embarrassed Danny tells Mindy that if she didn't like it he could just get her a gift card or a personal check, but Mindy was so touched, and rushes over to give him a hug (good thing her wine bra was empty!). They break apart and Danny's eyes do that up-and-down scan you give when you're thinking about and really wanting to kiss someone. Oh yeah!

***Episode Recap Intermission to Squee***

Danny and Mindy in a near kiss in Christmas Sex TrapThe moment is broken before they can actually kiss when Peter, Jeremy, and Morgan rush into Mindy's office for various reasons (Morgan's being a need for a cinderblock...). As the boys leave the office, Mindy implements Step 4 of her seduction plan, but this time on a different target: Danny. Mindy says she's going to step out to get a breath of fresh air, but Danny says he's not, he has to clean up. If his shell-shocked expression when Mindy hugged him was any indicator, while Danny might be more aware of his feelings for Mindy than Mindy is, he's still not ready to act on them.

For those of you who are Mindy/Cliff Shippers (Miff? Clifdy?), this episode will be very satisfying to you, too.

Other episode highlights:

Jeremy finally getting thin!!

Danny filling Mindy's wine bra...and watching her boobs grow.

Danny in a pair of glasses building a gingerbread replica of Montecello.

Danny: “I'll give you a hint: It's located in Virginia.”
Mindy: “Mount Rushmore?”
Danny: “The Massachusetts public school system is really letting you down.”
Mindy: “I'm sorry, I'm a good-looking doctor. I think it did fine.”

Danny: “Are you sad about Cliff?”
Mindy: “Sad is when the cab driver thought I was Jaden Smith. I'm heartbroken.”

Maria Menounos guest stars as Brendan Deslaurier's girlfriend. Peter volunteers to drive Maria to a location shoot she has to go to and is very thankful he's sober (and we're thankful he's not doing naughty things to a Christmas tree like last year).
Peter: “Wait. I'm not drunk at all! I haven't had anything to drink. For the first time in my life I'm sober at a party, I can give you a ride!”
Maria: “Are you sure? It's late. We do have those hotel rooms...”

Pardon us, we have to go squee some more. One of the best episodes yet, and our 'ship's sails are totally rigged up.

This episode--I just loved it so hard. It's perfect, and the near kiss was perfectly done. I don't want these two to get together, and I don't think they will, since Mindy Kaling knows exactly what makes romantic comedy work so well. I am loving all the near mkisses!

OMG I totally squee-ed so hard over this episoe. Each week just gets better and better. And I'm torn, @MFrampton. I want them to get together, but I'm LOVING the tension, and I'm afraid that it might will fade once they're together.

@redline_, This is the closest I could find, for now...

the scene at the end where he's watching her kissing cliff, killed me. it was right up there with watching her and casey through the doors at the hospital.

@alfabettezoupe, Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you found it all!!! Yay! It kills me that Danny is so much more aware of his feelings than Mindy is, and that he actually is showing that he has a soft side!
