Shipping Sunday: Divergent’s Tris/Four

A few of us here at Team H&H have long been fans of Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy and are eagerly awaiting the release of the third novel, Allegiant, not to mention the film adaptation of Book 1, Divergent. After all, the series has a strong heroine, it's set in a compelling dystopian world, and its Tris/Four relationship gives us all the relationship drama we need without a love triangle.

Tris and Four (whose real name is HIGHLIGHT FOR POTENTIAL SPOILERS Tobias /SPOILERS) each has issues (Tris carries a LOT of guilt around in Insurgent, and Four had a pretty rough childhood), but together they're an unbeatable team. We can't wait to see how they're portrayed in the movies and what Book 3/Allegiant has in store for them. Are you fan of the pairing? What drew you to them? Like the casting for the movie?

Shailene Woodley (Tris) and Theo James (Four) will be on the cover of the next issue of Entertainment Weekly, and they look hot! Check out the images and behind-the-scenes video the magazine has already released (+ grab a copy of the issue for more shippy Divergent goodness):

Mmmm I'm not feeling her playing the heroine in this movie already!!! Sorry!!! From the short trailer just now she looks like she's trying too hard, but he is so hot. I loved him on Golden Boy and hated that the show was canceled, but I'm going to give her a short because maybe I'm still annoyed about her irrating acting on Secret Life of the American Teenager. So, I'll her and the show a chance before I judge!

I think Theo James, 28, is too old to play a teenager. And to make it even more awkward, he was the ill-fated Mr. Pamuk on Downton Abbey. I'm just not sure I can get past that...

I have Divergent in my TBR pile, so I guess I'd better get crackin' if I want to read it spoiler free. I've seen Woodley in The Descendants so I know she can rise to good material. James looks hot enough to fry bacon. I'll reserve judgment until I've seen the finished product.

Wahoo! I think Woodley's got the stuff. James is very very manly and older than i expected which is a good thing because i wont feel so creeped out if im fantazing about a man who i know is around my age :)

@Princess7794 -- Like @Shark with Lasers, I saw Shailene Woodley in The Descendants and was REALLY impressed with her performance. So after that I felt much more excited about her playing Tris.

@Streanor -- Stephanie, hi! Yeah, I feel ya on the James stuff--I hope an older actor will be able to pull off the older/wiser vibe that Four kinda already carried in the books. Plus...he's way hot!

@DianeN -- I certainly understand about it being hard to see past someone's role in another project. For instance, I was really skeptical of Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow because in the past I hadn't been a big fan of anything she'd done (except The Horse Whisperer--I always knew she was amazing in that). But she completely won me over as Natasha and that actually gave me a new appreciation for all her other projects and made me want to check out Lost in Translation, which I adore. Anyway, long story short, hopefully Theo James will be able to really become Four and make you forget his past roles...

I loved the two books out so far so I hope they don't mess it up in the movie (screenplay writers I'm looking at you). That being said, I was okay with Shailene Woodley playing Tris but now I'm not so sure. She seems too tall. Tris was this petite girl (more like Dakota Fanning...hey why wasn't she cast in this movie?) . I think Shailene looks way too strong to be Tris (at this point). Tris was alot shorter than Four. Shailene and Theo look good together but they don't appear to have the same dimensions as Four and Tris (shouldn't Four have way more tattoos?). So, that might take me out of the movie right there. I haven't seen who else they have to play the other characters (Christina and the rest of the new recruits) so I'll reserve judgement on that them for later. Still, I'm excited. As I said, I LOVED these books (next to Bridget Jones' Diary and the less than great sequel these are the books I'm most excited to see have been turned into a movie). I really hope this turns out okay.

Yes. Theo James is hot.
