What Would You Do?

We've all been there—reading a book so engrossing you wish you could just put your life on hold to finish it.

So we'll ask you—what have you done to be able to finish reading your book? Taken the super-slow subway? Pretend to be sick? Gotten into the bathtub and forgotten to get out?

What is your best cheat for being able to finish reading your book?

I hide in bathtubs where the water has gone cold and sit in parking lots where it's twenty degrees outside and stay on the treadmill twice as long as planned.

@shiloh_walker I take the very long subway ride home and like it when I have to wait a long time for an appt.

I've told my husband I had a headache so he would take our son to the park to give some "quite time to rest". I have also taken the local subway train instead of the express to get home.

Been known to sit in the darkened garage to finish the end of an audiobook. My husband knows to only come down 15 minutes after he's heard the door close.

I hang in the bathtub even when the water has gone cold too which is often. I also routinely shave time off the clock saying it's earlier than it is when my hubs asks about the time and is trying to get me to go to sleep. It's a good thing he wears glasses and is nearly as blind as I am.

It's not "too" out-there but I've stayed up all night knowing I had to get up early the next day. Example: Last night it occurred to me at 2:30 that I needed to be up for work in 3 hours.

I failed college physics partly because I sat in the back reading all quarter instead of taking notes and paying attention.

Ok, I'm ashamed to admit it, but here it goes : the worst cheat I've for being able to finish a book is uploading it on a flashdrive and read it at work (or in class, when I still was a university student), while pretending to be totally engrossed by professional, serious, dull stuff. Only works with e-books of course _ and, trust me on that, you really want to avoid funny reads, it could totally give you away!

By now, I've stopped counting how many times I've been wrested from a book by the sound of my alarm-clock telling me it's time to wake up for work...

I've stayed up all night finishing a book. I got a new kindle recently and it now tells you how long it will take you to finish a chapter and the book. It got me into a lot of trouble...

Oh yeah, and I've asked other people to drive in a road trip so I could read while they drive. I'm not a very good car buddy.

Making sure my day off is when a new release from a favorite author comes out or if I had to work, staying up all night to finish the book.

I've gone to Dr.'s and told him to wait while I finish my book. He said to just tap on his office door when I'm ready.
