H&H Readers: We’re All Above Average!

Thanks to BookRiot, which mentioned a study the The Pew Research Center released about how and how much America reads.

If we were to poll H&H's readers, the starting point would have to be at least ten books a year, going up to 250 or more.

Here's the Pew results:

Over the course of 12 months:

7% of Americans ages 16 and older read one book
14% had read 2-3 books
12% had read 4-5 books
15% had read 6-10 books
13% had read 11-20 books
14% had read 21 or more books

How many books do you think you read in a year?

I think I read 30 something last year, but obliviously I wasn't using Goodreads correctly. This year I plan to use it to track my books correctly and have challenged myself to read 45 books. I love reading the GR challenges and the folks who do 150 or 250 or even 300 or more. I'm just blown away!

I probably read about 60 books last year? In a very rough guess. I don't like keeping track of how many I read, actually, since i feel like that's jsut one more thing I can feel inadequate about, and I never want to feel as though I'm not reading enough.

I started tracking my books in 2010. It's been a fun perrsonal challenge to meet/beat my own stats.
2010 = 163
2011 = 109
2012= 138
This year I'm aiming for 150.

I do not formally keep track of the books I read. But I often finish a book every two or three days. If I get a chunk of time to myself, I can read a book in 2 or 3 hours. So I expect I read over a hundred books a year, and maybe a lot more than that.

I want to preface this by saying that I read rather quickly.
2011- 221 books
2012- 291 books

My official 2013 goal is 250 books. But I'd like to hit the 100,000 pages mark. I was short by 9000 pages last year.

I'm another fast reader. I don't keep track, but I expect that I read over 200 books last year.

Last year I read over 1,000. I had set a goal of 1200 but didn't reach it. It was difficult and this year I'm just going to keep track and not limit myself by HAVING to read to fulfill a goal.

I estimate that I read about 150 books last year,and that doesn't include all the novellas and short stories downloaded on my e-reader.

Last year was slow for me because of personal reasons. I only finished 144 novels. I don't count novellas or short stories. The year before I finished 170, which is about average for me. This includes only new-to-me books, not re-reads.

So far in 2013, I've already read 22 books according to Goodreads, i.e. 22 books in english only (novels or novellas). Given that I also read in french and spanish, I must be around 30 read books already, in 15 days. Assuming I keep this rythm, I'll be over 700 books read at the end of 2013. And I'm just talking about pleasure reads here, not professional ones. I'm rather new on Goodreads and I don't particularly keep track of what I'm reading otherwise, but I'll say that's about average for me, especially since I've started reading e-books (it was far less when I only read paperback or hardcover editions).

Being retired, I'm making up for all my years of working and reading only work-related materials. I've read at least 300 books a year since 2010 and almost all are contemporary romances which I prefer.

I gotta pop back in and say my math was totally off--I don't know what i was thinking. I probably read 150 books last year, not 60 (this is why I am a reader and author, not a mathematician!).

This is also why I don't keep track, because I felt myself want to raise it up and up when I saw how many you all had read.
