Cover & Title Alert: Nalini Singh’s Heart of Obsidian

Heart of Obsidian by Nalini SinghToday, at long last, Nalini Singh has revealed the cover and title of her June 2013 release, Heart of Obsidian.

Note: Heart of Obsidian speculation below

Singh has teased and taunted readers with the highly anticipated release of the twelfth book in her Psy-Changeling book for months now. Longtime fans of this highly addictive series have waited YEARS for the reveal of this one book. Finally—will we learn the story of the sexy, deadly, and oh-so-cold Psy Councilor Kaleb Krychek? Or, will Singh bring us the story of the ever elusive Ghost? Will she finally reveal that Kaleb and the Ghost are the same person? Or will she prove to us, once and for all, that Vasic is the Ghost?

The Psy-Changeling series is one of my top ten YOU MUST READ paranormal romance series to date. I absolutely adore the world Ms. Singh has created and find myself re-reading this entire series often. Filled with nonstop action, suspense and mystery with a healthy balance of hot steamy romance, and some light-hearted moments as well. Dynamic characters and multiple interactions throughout the series allows us to get to know all of the characters intimately.
It’s everything you could want in a series and more.

This series is set in a futuristic alternative Earth and populated by three groups: the Changelings, the Psy and humans. The changelings are shape shifters. The Psy are humans with psychic powers who voluntarily “silenced” their emotions. The Psy is the largest and most powerful ruling body on Earth. The constantly evolving main storyline tells of the battles and eventual war brewing between the three groups and the struggles within each group.

Nalini has created a self-sustaining world that continues to delight and intrigue readers. Each story features a different hero and heroine who meet, fall in love, and fight for their love in this turbulent world.

Let's talk about the cover. Have you ever seen anything so beautiful in your life? The lone man walking into the burning city just screams loneliness, despair, and rage.

Is this Kaleb?? Is this the Ghost?? Are they one and the same?? If this is Kaleb’s story, will we finally learn what happened to him as a child and who the mysterious woman he searches for, is? If this is Ghost's story, will we learn why he became rebellious and waged an insidious, hidden war on the Psy?

Unfortunately, while Singh has revealed the cover, she will not be releasing any information concerning the storyline till closer to release date in June. *sob*

So, let’s start detecting. Obsidian means black and Kaleb wears black. He is also known to be cold and, well, black hearted. So...the “heart of the black.” Conincidence?

I have my suspicions. Nalini Singh is known to be very, very tricky. Black could signify Ghost and his unknown identity, which brings about a whole new set of neuroses. Ghost has already stated he doesn’t really care about anyone; only the netmind. He cannot let it fall and will sacrifice any all all to save it. It could be a reference to the blackness of the netmind. It is two separate entities, depicting good and evil. The burning city could be a play on the war that has been brewing in the horizon, finally coming to a head or the warring in a man’s soul. His loyalties torn between his conditioning and his convictions.

Either way, fans are rejoicing and more than ready for this book to release. Hopefully, June will come fast.

So tell me, who do YOU think it is and why?

I WANT it to be Kaleb, even though he is the most obvious Ghost contender... I just want his book. But Nalini said that there is a great big hint on the cover, which I am guessing is the trenchcoat. If it is the trench coat, wouldn't that make him an Arrow? Vasic is an Arrow. Judd's book has him on the cover in his trademark Arrow trenchcoat. Does Kaleb ever wear a trenchcoat???? I have come to terms that we won't have any idea who this book is about until it releases, but OMG the wait sucks!

Spaz-I am going over every inch of the cover but yes, I do think the trench is a BIG clue. Nalini has said she will reveal the back and blurb in March.

I cannot wait! Her series is one of the few (maybe even the only!) that has remained consistently good the entire time. I look forward to her books like no others every year! I'm also hoping it's Kaleb's book...but after reading your speculations, I might have to go back and re-read some character descriptions!

So hard to wait until June for Heart Of Obsidian. I'd like to know who Kaleb is looking for but would also like to know more about Vasic.

This is my most anticipated book this year. I think it's definitely story about Ghost, because that evil tease said :
Througout the incredible 11-book run there has been one question that has tantalized Nalini’s legion of fans.
And I think that biggest question in this series is Ghost's identity.
Now, I don't want to even start speculating, because I'm going crazy, with Kaleb/Vasic pro et contra, lists, pools.... I have a feeling if I only knew answer to this, my world will be complete. Girls, what would you do for that ARC....?

Hmm, let's talk about clue. I found this:
Obsidian was valued in Stone Age cultures because, like flint, it could be fractured to produce sharp blades or arrowheads.
Oh, yeah, I won't sleep now....

LegeArtis. OoooO good clue. What I would do for an arc. I love you to death but I would take you out for it. True story. lol xoxo

Mary-By March , we may have a better idea. June can't come soon enough.

Emily-Im so behind in reviews yet I found myself digging out out this series for a re read.

About the you think the book could be about Aden? Because apparently the name "Aden" means fire.

@TinaC- Definitelly a posibility. And obsidian is formed when lava comes in touch with water (and there is rain on the cover).
But, Nalini sure is tricky. If you look at name Kaleb:
Name Kaleb, derives fron Caleb and has hebrew origins, and most books and sites stand that meaning of this word is Dog. But, it has an alternative meaning that is based on theory that it is actually compound word, which is common in ancient hebrew:
Col (??, Caf + Lamed) = "all" or "whole"; Lev (??, Lamed + Bet) =
"heart". Therefore, Caleb (or Calev as pronounced in Hebrew) would
actually mean "whole hearted".
I used to be sane before this cover.....

@LegeArtis - lol I know what you mean. I was practically staring at the cover for two hours. And I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid or not, but I think I actually see part of a woman's face among the smoke. It's probably just me.

Don't forget about the Obsidian Archive in the net. It's where the netmind backs up everything that ever happened in the net.
Kaleb is supposedly the only one who knows about it. And, I think, he's the one who named it that, too.

I think it is Kaleb. At the end of Kiss of Snow when Judd found Aden waiting for him at the church having been sent to kill him, he said straight out that Kaleb hadn't sent him. Indicating to me that he knew who the ghost is. :)

I, totally think that this book has to be over Aedan or Vasic of the Arrows. Ever since they have broken off from Ming. I have totally felt that a book was going to come along from one of them at some point since they are more independent. I also think one of them is the Ghost too.

Although I kind of think it is Kaleb. But you just never know at this point. As he seems to have a narrower focus. And the Ghost just like the Arrows have always been about maintaining Silence. Screw the pure psy and side agendas. He has been about that. And possibly someone else he has in his past. But that is even a bit questionable.

I don't care who it is as long as it's a Psy Arrow. My bet is on Vasic and Aden. Now Ghost is likely the top contender but who is Ghost? Certainly not Krychek? I can't even see him beating Silence. If he does or did in book 11 (just getting ready to read that next so maybe I have things yet to learn) then maybe. Who knows? Either way my guess is that it's going to be an interesting read.

Happy reading all!

PS Do we get to see someone off Ming LeBon and does Nikita grow a heart? Clearly she has some semblance of one.
