Love + Rain = Bigger Love

There's something about the addition of rain to a poignant scene to add even more emotion—after all, if you're willing to stand outside in precipitation without an umbrella, you must really be in love!

There's Say Anything, the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, Sliding Doors, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Match Point, The Notebook, this clip from Wives and Daughters (the good part is from 2:30-4:00, and they can't touch because of an outbreak of illness at his family estate), as well as many more (thanks to Twitter for the recs!).

What other love in the rain scenes can you think of, from television and film to books?

For some reason I can't come up with a rain scene but I'm thinking Bridget Jones and the ending kissing in the snow. Atmosphere is always good.

Isn't this funny ...
Catherine stood outside the chain-link fence in the rain waiting for Vincent in last night's episode of Beauty and the Beast.

The kiss in Spiderman --- upside down in the rain! Whoa, that was so sexy!

The best rain scene ever is, of course, the final scene of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. The perfect Audrey Hepburn, "Holly," a drifter and waif, has repulsed Fred/Paul's love and is in a cab leaving for parts unknown. Rain pours. Enter Cat ... her equally shiftless kitty that's wandered off and/or been released to fend for her kittyself. Ah, Holly just can't leave the poor creature in the wet and cold. She flings herself out of the cab, scoops Cat up in her arms and cuddles her in her raincoat. Enter Fred/Paul, the glowingly handsome George Peppard... who only wants to love them, take them out of the rain and give them a home. Add stunning Mancini score ... more pouring rain. Purrfection!
