The Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones:

First Grave on the Right

Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

This is a thrilling debut novel from an exciting newcomer to the world of paranormal romantic suspense.

First Grave on the Right is the winner of the 2012 Rita Award for Best First Book.

Second Grave on the Left

When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously? Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. But Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. Mimi’s husband explains that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old friend of hers from high school had been found murdered a couple weeks prior. The same woman Mimi had named in her message.

Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He’s left his body because he’s being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can’t let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they’ll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty. Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Will Cookie ever get a true fashion sense? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel them as they do?

Third Grave Dead Ahead

Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back! And she’s drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because, every time she closes her eyes, she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the parthuman, part-supermodel son of Satan. Yes, she did imprison him for all eternity, but come on. How is she supposed to solve a missing persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hellbent on murder when the devil’s son just won’t give up?

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet

In Darynda Jones's Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.

In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.

The Darklight Series by Darynda Jones:

Death and the Girl Next Door

Ten years ago, Lorelei's parents disappeared without a trace.  Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home.  For Lorelei, life goes on.

High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be.  Until the day the school's designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it,  standing outside her house in the dark, night after night.  Things get even more complicated when a new guy—terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach—comes to school.  Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity.  What does Jared know about her parents?  Why does Cameron tell Jared he can't have Lorelei?  And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real?

In Dragon Bound, Pia has the power that her blood heals. I found that rather neat (in a messy sort of way!).
Katy L
2. Katy L
I have to vote for Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock. She's a shapeshifter, rides a very cool motorcycle, and carries more vampire-killing weaponry than should be humanly (or even superhumanly) possible. Come on, even her jewelry (silver crucifixes) and hair ornaments (small stakes) are weapons!
Roger Simmons
3. trainmanri
What a great prize. Thanks for the chance. Kick-ass heroines in paranormal romance, who has the best accessories? I'd vote for Drusilla Jaco in Suzanne Johnson's Sentinels of New Orleans series, Royal Street and River Road. Oh, wait, that's Urban Fantasy not Paranormal Romance. Oh well, she is a wizard and has spells and a staff and some magic, and lives in New Orleans.
4. wsl0612
Well Cat has Bones, does he count? Because seriously he is the BEST accessory ;-)
5. ames599
I'd have to go with Cat from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress. Being able to pick up the power of whomever she drinks from leaves endless possibilites.
Airy Elser
6. Airy_El
Elena's wings in the Guild Hunter series are something I would like to steal. There pretty and she can fly. And if thats not enough she always has guns and knives, so overall shes pretty decked out with some deadly
Rebe WhiteheadSchwarz
7. RebeLovesBooks
Definitely Kate Daniels. She's got Slayer AND Curran! Plus Grendel, the attack poodle.
Kelly Mayberry
8. Keslynn
I would have to go with Alexia Tarabotti's powers as a pretenatural (from Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series). She can remove the powers of any supernatural - vampire, werewolf - for as long as she's touching them. It's a very unique and potentially handy power.

She also has awesome actual accessories. Her parasol contains a variety of weapons.
Pam Howell
9. PicardsMom350
MJD Betsy's sister has sword of hellfire - Invisible til she draws it
would love to win & read
Katy L
10. Jen G.
I don't read a lot of paranormals -- although I love the Charley Davidson series! But I'm going to go with Cat. She's got kickass strength to start with, then gets even more power/s as the stories progress.
11. caseroo7
I would have to say Xhexania in J.R. Ward's BDB. She is half Sympath which gives her some awesome natural abilities as well as all of her weapons. And shes just a great example of a strong and capable female!!
G S Moch
13. LSUReader
I'm going to go with Jennifer Estep's Gin Blanco--she's an assassin, has the ability to manipulate multiple elements, uses very cool knives, and has many other capabilities. She also surrounds herself with some pretty useful friends.

I love Darynda's books. Thanks for a great contest.
14. Maris
Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter is armed to the teeth! :) Thanks for the giveaway. This is a fun contest.
Rita Dozier
15. Granny
Darynda's books make me laugh out loud! This character's greatest accessories are her quick brain and even quicker mouth!! No body faster on the draw! Great contest and I'm hoping to be a winner :)
Molly Frenzel
16. dg_molly
Rachel Morgan can do some pretty wicked magic, plus she has the demon Algiarept and Jinx!
Allison Culver
18. aculver1
Anita Blake from Laurel K Hamilton's books. She has the power to bring back the dead and the undead, carries a gun plus tons of ammo, has a sword that is the length of her back, and can call several different types of weres at her command. Not to mention Jean Claude :)
Jennifer Walter
19. jlc341
I think I would go with Mari from Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole. A lot of power that's only going to become more powerful, great Valkerie friends, and the best accessory, her Lykae/man Bowen.
Jessica Larlee
20. darklove923
Deffinately Jane Yellowrock she is armed and dangerous!even sleeps with her guns! And she has beast! The woman is unstoppable, almost ready to bleed out? No way. Beast takes over and shes back!
James P. Pope
21. jim162065
Very cool sereis, love the covers.
Maria Smith
22. TexasBookLover
I have not read this series (or several others mentioned above yet) but of the books I have read I'd have to go Anita Blake. She usually has no less than 4+ guns plus an additional 4+ knives on her at all times. Plus she can call up numerous powers with a thought (or a man). Add to that there are God only knows how many of those men attached to her almost constantly or at least there where the last time I read one of her books. I’d say she is accessorized, sometimes over accessorized.
Valeri Davila
23. moiti
Sienna Lauren from the Psy-Changeling series. Her X abilites are awesome when defending the pack.
24. MaryC
Marjorie M. Liu's demon hunter Maxine Kiss - her tattoos come to life
as demon protectors.
Jordan R
25. jrojrojro
I love Kate Daniels. She goes for simple and classy. She's got her awesome sauce magic, her magical sword, and usually that's all she needs to kick serious butt!
Jaye Snachez
26. wuanjaye
Alexia Tarabotti from the 'Parasol protectorate' series penned by Gail Carriger . I totally enjoy the way she makes the most from whatever weapon is handy (even a parasol) - she sure fits that bill :-)
Cerese Sanborn
27. flowerpower
I love Tabitha Devereaux and Astrid from Sherrilyn Kenyon's the Dark-Hunters series. Tabitha is amazing because of her many 'vampire' killing weapons, which could one day be a pair of stilettos, you never know!! I also love Astrid because of her justice nymph powers, but it is mainly because she is able to cow her powerful husband, Zarek of Moesia.
Axyl Oblivion
28. PsychoticHatter
Christine Warren's Saskia Preda wife of Nicolas Preda in On The Prowl she can turn into an Auburn Tiger also called a Strawberry Tiger. I think she's got the pretty kick-ass accessories. Claws, fangs, and instincts killer combo.
Eva Millien
29. evampire
I would have to say that Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake has the best kick ass accessories and thanks to Jean Claude she's being groomed to add the stilettos as well.
Jena Briars
30. CutMyTeethOnKleypas
Currently reading Lover Mine by JR Ward - I think Xhex since she's part symphath.
Sarah Farr
31. sarahdf84
Kate Daniels - she's got amazing magic, Slayer, awsome wit, intellegence, and Curran.
Rajmeen Kahlon
32. rajgirl
Karen Chance's heroine Cassie is a clairvoyant who can travel back in time. I think that is one of the coolest powers and she gets to meet some pretty awesome people on her adventures.
33. lasvegasnv
I think Nix from the IAD series and her power to see the future.
Paula Wall
34. pwall55
Ava Gray's Kyra Beckwith (Skin Game) has the most unique power I've read lately. Being able to take someone else's skills by a touch is both great and terrible at the same time!
Krysten Michelsen
35. krysskross
I love the magic and weaponry of the Kate Daniels world
Janie McGaugh
36. jmcgaugh
I'd go with Kate Daniels; she has her magic, Slayer, & Curran!
Traci Wallace
37. tracilynn
Rachel Morgan from The Hollows series. All her spells, plus she has really cool accessories like her splat gun for example, plus she has some pretty awesome side kicks
Karen Haas
38. KarenH
Well, I'm just swimming around in a sea of the unknowns. I don't read this genre so I'm not familiar with the books, but I do know Buffy...and she is a kick-ass heroine with lots of stakes! Yep, Buffy get's my vote!
kristina Darrington
39. kdarrin
Riley Jenson the Guardian Series a hybred vampire wolf with lots of cool gagets and Quinn.
Riley Moreland
40. ramore
I choose Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson. With the backing of the Guardians, she ought to be equipped to deal with anything. Communication devices, weapons, disguises. And of course, stilleto heels complement any high-tech outfit.
Penni DePaul
41. penniloafers9
Hmmmm.....what a great question. I'm torn between caseroo7's vote for Xhex who can kick butt just like the Brotherhood and kdarrin's vote for Riley Jenson. Can I vote for both?
Jennifer McIntosh
42. mystryder
I have to go with Xhex from J.R. Ward's BDB. She holds her own with the boys.
Devon Mason
43. sully6189
Regin the Radiant, because she is awesome with a sword and is fueled by electricity

Does magic count? I think it is pretty kick butt to have magicaly powers at your whim and call
Vilmarys Collado
52. vilmarys
That's a tough one but I'll go with Xhex from BDB. Half sympath and knows her weapons!
Anne Clark
53. clarkac64
Chess Putnam from Stacia Kane's Downside series. She has best accesory of all -Terrible, plus all the magic accesories she uses.
Rachel P
54. indigobolt
Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson always have some cool accessories that act as weapons. Lots of stuff to kill vampires but the coolest is her heels with wooden heels that no one ever realizes is a weapon until she stakes a vamp.
Amy A
55. antonidis
I really love Anita's sword and her sheaths for knives. Betsy's sword is also really cool and easy storage-lol.
Joanna Hernandez
57. hernandez.joanna@rocketmail.com
Maxine Kiss, Cat, Anita Blake, Riley Jenson, Xhex, Katra... all good ones! I can't pick just one.
Katy L
58. Wendy Railey
I'm going to have to check out some of these heroines that have been listed here like Kate Daniels and Riley Jenson. I have not read many paranormal romance series so I'm not sure of all these great ladies everyone's talking about. I am very excited about reading the Darynda Jones books though. If I had to choose a kick a** heroine with some awesome accessories, I would say Riley from the Demon Trapper's Daughter series. She has these awesome spheres that help her destroy demons of all kinds. She also has a huge selection of weaponry and a hot love interest who sports his leather and can be pretty handy in a fight. Plus, she wears Chucks so that's pretty cool too. I wish everyone luck and thanks.
Debbie ...
59. orchid7
Anita Blake is for me the original bad-ass heroine. I always measure my other heroines up against her. I hope that Laurel K. Hamilton will get that series back on track soon.
I absolutely love the Charley Davidson series. This is an awesome giveaway!
Connie SInclair
60. emeraldever

rachel sternberg
62. rae70
Riley from Kerry Arthur series.. She gets her hands on some very cool survellience equipment and makeup!
Adriana Gonzalez
63. agonmor
It has to be Merry Gentry from Laurell K. Hamilton's series of the same name. The woman is a fairy princess who can turn people into living balls of inside out flesh with just one touch and she has a sword that makes it possible for her to do it withouth the touching. And lets not forget her gorgeous entourage of fairy warriors!
64. kochouran
Anita Blake's necromancer powers are pretty cool. This isn't paranormal romance, but my favorite weapon of all time is Faith's knife from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Ann Sheiring
65. Annwitch
I think Jeanienne Frost's Kat has the best gear. All those silver knives and Bones (yum)
Allison Hickman
66. AllisonHickman

Another favorite is Lizzie Brown from The Demon Slayer series. Her best acessories are her biker witch grandma and her talking dog.
Shannon Cooper
72. yeahbuddy3
I have to give it up to Kate Daniels with her sword Slayer. You can never go wrong with a magical sword!
73. fire_dragon31
I have to go with Cat from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. She was half vampire before being turned into a vampire but even before that she had awesome weapons, stakes of course since she hunts evil vampires, but she uses things around her as weapons. Then she has Bones, a master vampire... After she is turned she can take the powers for a short time from other vampires simply by drinking thier blood. How awesome is that.
Cheryl U.
74. matkeltri
I think Mira from Jocelynn Drake's Dark Days series has a great power--she's the firestarter!
Katy L
75. tadyena
Totally forgot Jaz Parks from author Jennifer Rardin. Now there is a crazy kick ass herione. lol - she even says she is crazy - with voices in her head and all.

76. BeckyIA
I'm torn between Riley Jensen and Joanne Baldwin. Werewolf/vampire mix or weather warden. Hmmmmmmm.
Kay Harris
78. kharris
Aisling Grey from Katie MacAlister's Guardian series. Aisling is a Guardian of portals that could let demons into the mortal world to create chaos. She uses both supernatural and physical powers to fight the demons. She accidentally becomes a demon lord to Newfoundland Jim, a hilarious sidekick. She can also access her mate's dragon fire at any time.
Tiffaney Jump

87. theimaginetree
This is a genre I am just getting into, so I don't know any yet!
Becca Carman
88. BeccaC
So many good characters and series have been mentioned above... I wholeheartedly agree with those who picked out any of the heroines in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters books, as well as Nalini Singh's Psy women. But I also have to throw in a vote for Christine Feehan's Carpathian women... aside from the killer Carpathian abilities that come with vamp fighting (shapeshifting, telepathy, weather control , etc.), they are strong and confident women who can put up with centuries old Carpathian MEN who never grew into the 21st century!
Brianna Lee
90. briannaleereviews
Wow, this is such a hard question! There are so many kick-ass women in all the books I've read. And there are so many more kick-ass women in the books I have yet to read. But...I guess to start with one...I would say Xhex from J.R. Ward's "Black Dagger Brotherhood" series. It wasn't her fault she was born half-sympath, but she has some crazy powers that came with it. Plus, she is just so bad-ass on her own with all her fighting skills and crazy weapons! Thanks for this great opportunity! I would love to review all those books! =)
