Thar She Blows!: Oral Sex in Romance Novels

Sex and the City ladies

Adam: C’mon, give me a little BJ! Up and down a couple of times, you’re done. It’s easy!

Samantha: Easy? You men have no idea what we’re dealing with down there. Teeth placement and jaw stress and suction and gag reflex. And all the while bobbing up and down, moaning, and trying to breathe through our noses. Easy? Honey, they don’t call it a “job” for nothing.

—Sex and the City

Fellatio (oral sex) in romance is as commonplace as cream cheese frosting on a red velvet cupcake. Some authors just toss it in randomly with no thought or direction, while other authors create a literary masterpiece that leave readers talking about the scene for months. For me, fellatio can make or break the book. I don’t want meaningless descriptive terms comments on the size of the hero’s penis or cutesy terms extolling the virtues of his “massive love sausage.” I definitely don’t want to hear about the cosmic flavoring of hero’s release or how delicious the heroine looks swallowing his “offering.”

What engages me in a fellatio scene is the connection the hero and heroine experience when performing such an intimate act. I like when the author uses the scene to further develop our introduction to the characters, giving us a deeper insight into their personalities. A well done fellatio scene can show us more about the characters’ true desires then an entire chapter of dialogue.

Packing Heat by Kele MoonIn Packing Heat by Kele Moon, Brad and Gavin’s fellatio shows us Brad’s strong desire for Gavin. He has wanted him for a long time and in this, he is able to express his feelings through this intimate act.

It felt like ages since he’d gotten to suck cock and even longer that he’d pined for this particular cock. Perhaps a lifetime, because he’d never craved a connection more than he did right now. He’d never thought to be this close to a partner again, never expected to feel that pang of pain in his chest that made it seem as if his heart would burst from the emotions welling up inside him.

Brad went down on him with a flourish, sucking hard and fast, savoring Gavin’s cock sliding in and out of his mouth. The power trip had his own cock hard and throbbing, protesting the jeans he was wearing. He ignored the painful want and slipped his hands beneath the back of Gavin’s jeans. He pushed his underwear aside to cup his bare ass.The touch was possessive. He was staking claim on something that was going to be his very soon, and Gavin obviously knew it. He nearly slipped out of Brad’s arms, but Brad tightened his hold on him and released his cock to look up at Gavin. “You can hold on to me,” he coaxed.

Gavin’s entire body jerked from the force of his climax. His hold on Brad’s hair was painful as he forced him to remain open and receiving, his hips moving rhythmically, his cock throbbing. Brad relished the pulse of cum, loving Gavin’s taste in his mouth. He swallowed and sucked him until Gavin went lax in his arms, forcing Brad to support most of his weight. He looked up at him once more, finding the sated pleasure still etched over his beautiful features. Bottom lip swollen from biting it, black hair moist with sweat and clinging to his temples, Gavin really did wear debauchery well.

Lie to Me by Tori St. ClaireLie to Me by Tori St. Claire is a dark romantic suspense where the hero is torn by the conflicting emotions he feels for the heroine. He desires her, yet is unable to justify to himself the right to desire her.

“Sasha,” he murmured. He couldn’t take being toyed with right now. He wouldn’t follow through until she’d had a chance to rest, and if he let her manipulate him any more, he’d be jacking off in front of her. Grimacing, he reached down, took her by the wrist, and eased her hand away. “You’re making it damn difficult to remember I promised not to touch you until tonight.”

She was going to put her mouth on him. Wrap those soft, sultry lips around his cock and brand him for life. And when she did, she could kiss any idea of getting rest goodbye. He’d never make it to tonight without fucking her first. Alexei gripped her shoulder, torn between dragging her away from his hard-as-stone erection and holding her in place.

Her breath whispered against his skin, a pulse-point away from his swollen cock head. “Let me please you, Alexei.”

It wasn’t the searing heat of her lips as they slid over the blunt tip or the mind-blowing suction as she took him into the back of her throat that sent Alexei staggering backward against the tiled wall. No, what nearly dropped him to his knees was her desire to give him pleasure. He had always been the one expected to give, the women demanding to receive. No one, not one damn woman who’d paid him for her pleasure had ever given a flying fuck about his.

Laid Bare by Lauren DaneLauren Dane is an author who knows exactly how and where to put the “e” in erotic romance. Laid Bare, book one of Dane’s Brown Siblings series introduces Erin and Todd. Todd is a dark horse who fights his BDSM tendencies. Erin is a free-spirited young woman who is secure in her sexuality. As Erin gives Todd an impromptu blowjob, we see the struggle Todd goes through in trying to remain a “gentleman” and not give into his dominant nature.

Her fingers traced down the line of his zipper as she looked up into his face—waiting for him to refuse. Yeah, like that was going to happen. He flexed his hips instead and watched, rapt, as she slowly pulled his zipper down, the metal rasp loud over his breath.

Gentle, cool hands pulled him out.

"No underwear. My. Surprise, surprise.”

“I like it when my cock rubs against my jeans this way.” He’d never spoken like that to a woman before. It made him harder. She angled him and the air shot out his mouth as her tongue circled the head, the tip digging into the sensitive spot just beneath.

She opened her eyes and looked up at him, her lips swollen and wet. “Tell me. What do you want, Todd?”

He panted as the words threatened to break through. He wanted to say them, but the darkness in them wasn’t something he was used to letting free.

“Shall I go first? Should I tell you that when I’m done sucking your cock and you’ve blown down my throat, I want your face between my thighs? That I want to feel your mouth on my pussy, licking and sucking my clit? What do you say? Hmm? Is there a dirty talker in there waiting to break free? Trust me enough to tell me what you want and I’ll give it to you.”

He swallowed hard. Erin Brown made him want things he’d been fine not wanting. On one hand, it felt marvelous; on the other, it scared the hell out of him. He let his tongue free because she’d demanded it of him with her own uninhibited behavior.

“Suck my cock, Erin. Take me as far as you can into that sweet, hot throat. I want to fuck your mouth and control you by your hair.” As the words unfurled, the tight ball in his chest eased for the first time in years. His spine relaxed even as his balls drew tight against his body.

Watching Erin down the line of his body, he caught her smile right before she bent over him and swallowed his cock just the way he told her he wanted. Her mouth kept even pressure, kept him nice and wet as he began to roll his hips, fucking into her while he grabbed a handful of her hair, tight, in his fist, holding her head just the way he wanted it.

The way he wanted it. Not gentle, not nice, but hard and dark.

What are your favorite fellatio scenes?

Love this post!
There is a scene in Lisa Valdez's historical romance Patience which blows me away *snicker*. Though I would say that the BJ is taken and not given, but it is integral to the development of the story.

Victoria Dahl writes some excellent BJ scenes. I like hers because it's almost always written from the heroine's perspective & turns her on.

Laid Bare is also excellent.

Cameron Dane writes scorching scenes between m/m & m/f. She seems to be able to get inside her characters heads with ease.

After reading that scene from the m/m you have posted, I might just have to try it. :)

My eye balls just melted.

Most of the romance novels I read don't necessarily do oral sex so graphically. Currently I'm reading Bad Girl by Night by Lacy Alexander and the BJ scenes are really remarkable. The hero is totally into the heroine sexually but the connection she makes with her mouth on his peen is both sexual and emotional.

However, whenever I think of oral sex, I can't help but think of the late comedian Patrice O'Neal's joke that men don't care what women look like during the act. They want women to look like an ugly old man playing dice. lmao.

There is an oral sex scene between Channing and Colby in Loralei James' Long Hard Ride that is out of this world. Colby is seriously sore and injured due to falling off a bull during an event but this doesn't curb his desires. Channing takes full advantage and gives him a lot of oral lovin', taking full charge of the situation and even uses lubricant! Yes, in a word "unforgettable" (sigh) LOL

What an interesting post, Tori. I’m reading “Obsession” by Tori Carrington now, and I like that her “foray” is more emotional than instructional much as Brad’s is in “Packing Heat.” It does something visceral to me when they throw back their head and say, “Sweet Jesus
. . .” Also, it makes it more special if his agenda is pleasuring her and she’s forcing him to allow it. I personally like to write scenes that take some of the stigma away from the heroine by giving her an ulterior motive for the deed—a young single mother having to search out a stranger to fellate in order to ransom her son back from a deviate kidnapper and asking her pastor for help, thereby choosing him (Worth Any Price). Or a young college student who falls in love with her emotionally tortured professor, a priest at her Catholic university, knowing her only option is to tempt him beyond his control (Father
Steve’s Dilemma). To me, it takes some of the slutty away if the heroines have a secondary motivator in addition to wanting to give the men heightened mind-blowing pleasure.
