H&H Book Club: Choice for May

Joan in Mad Men

Now that we’re in the middle of April’s H&H Book Club reading, it’s time to figure out the book for May.

A reminder for the H&H Book Club Guidelines:

—The book will always be a romance novel.

—We will read a book a month.

—One day a week, the Morning Coffee item will be a general discussion of the book, with a final wrap-up and no spoilers banned free-for-all discussion at the end of the reading month.

—We will vary choices by genre, and hopefully move ALL of us out of our usual reading comfort zone.

—We’ll never read a book in the middle of a series (that just makes my skin break out in hives anyway!)

—We will do our best to make sure it is available internationally, and in e.

May’s genre: Overweight heroines

Choices could include, but are not limited to:

Lisa Kleypas, Suddenly You

Lori Foster, Too Much Temptation

Teresa Medeiros, The Bride and The Beast

Jenny Crusie, Bet Me

Tessa Dare, One Dance With A Duke

Bella Andre, Take Me

Susan Donovan, He Loves Lucy

Sarah MacLean, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake

Weigh in (ha!) in comments on your choice, and add any others you can think of. Also be sure to say if the books on this list do not meet the criteria.

I really have no recommendation on this one, I would go along with the majority choice. This looks like an interesting category and funnily enough, Bella Andre's Take Me is on my TBR pile based on the recent post about overweight heroines :-)

This one sounds interesting - I'll cast my vote for :
Teresa Medeiros, The Bride and The Beast
3. Tammye
Bet Me is one of my favorite books but Suddenly You or Too Much Temptation are great recommendations too. Any of them.

I've read almost all of these except for Suddenly You, The Bride and the Beast and He Loves Lucy, so I'm game for any of those--and I love all the others mentioned!

I'd like to read Bride and the Beast myself. I've read Too Much Temptation and it is good - just looking for something I haven't read before.
6. samicami
I've had Take Me in my TBR pile for a while, but Too Much Temptation sounds really good, so my vote is for either one of those two. :-)

I haven't read any of the books listed, so I'll be happy to go along with whatever book you choose.

Oh, I love overweigh heroines :) I've already read most of the books suggested here but loved them, so it would be no trouble at all re-reading them. I haven't read :
Teresa Medeiros, The Bride and The Beast
Sarah MacLean, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake
Lori Foster, Too Much Temptation
so my vote will go to one of them :)

Other overweight-heroine books on my TBR pile :
The Ugly Girlfriend, by Latrivia S. Nelson
The Lady Flees her Lord, by Michele Young
The Charm School, by Susan Wiggs
Too perfect, by Julie Ortolon
The Next Big Thing, by Johanna Edwards
I haven't read any of those, so I really don't know what they're worth, but they seem to fit in this month book club requirements :)

Any of the following has my vote:
Lisa Kleypas, Suddenly You
Sarah MacLean, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake
Tessa Dare, One Dance With A Duke
Teresa Medeiros, The Bride and The Beast

I haven't read any of these, or even any of the authors yet, but Bella Andre has been on my "Want to Read" list for a while, and I've just stumbled on Tessa Dare in the last few weeks (oh, so many free samples hanging out as TBR on my nook), so my vote would be for either of these.

As a fluffy girl myself, I love a plus sized heroine. I vote for:
Sarah MacLean, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake
Tessa Dare, One Dance with a Duke
Teresa Medeiros, The Bride and the Beast
Megan Friedman

I'm voting for Bet Me. Don't ask me why I have not read this.

i liked "bride" sherrlyn's slightly overweight herion in dark hunters series, she was very self-concious about her weight especially when she got dumped by stupid boyfriend, fiance... and right into the hands of a super hot shifter.......Yes !!!! i'm all for pleasantly plump super women !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (JUST LIKE ME!!!)

Bet Me is one of my favorite books. I love the chemistry between Min and Cal. Great book!

Hi I have read sevral of these books and well none of them have overweigh heroines in them. They do however normal weigh heroines. I always find it odd that if someone is a size 10 or higher they are called fat.
The Lori Foster, and Bella Andre books are HOT! HOT! HOT! and I loved them. I loved the Teresa Mederios and Lisa Kleypas books as well, they are just not as hot. But I love them all.
18. Nell
That is weight I missed the "t" sorry about that.

I forgot to say which ones to I would read or in my case reread.
*Lori Foster "Too Much Temption"
*Bella Andre "Take Me"
*Teresa Mederios "The Bride and The Beast"
*Lisa Kleypas "Suddenly You"

Anything by Lori Foster gets my vote!! Whay about Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon? You have a full figured herione and a hot alpha male. Nothing better than that!!!

I've read all but "Nine Rules", "He Loves Lucy", and "Bride and the Beast" so I vote for one of those. But "Night Play" sounds good too! I've read most (if not all) of Bella Andre's books and love almost all of them. She has some that are more erotic and others that are more traditional romances. I highly recommend Take Me for those thinking of reading it!

The problem with Sherrilyn Kenyon's Night Play is that it is part of a series, and isn't the 1st book (I actually think the H/h had met in a previous book). I think that would be against the H&H Book Club rules, wouldn't it?

I'm a major Vane and Bride fan myself, but Lafka is right. It's the fifth book in the Dark Hunter series. While I do believe it's a series that everyone on the planet should have to read or risk having Simi-sauce licked off of them by a charonte demon, I also believe they are best read in order. But in the vote for the "heroine who rocked the weight best", my vote goes to Bride, no contest.

As for the book we read next, I'll leave that up to the majority and just roll with what I get. Sometimes it's more fun that way.

Gotta go with Bet Me because it is all kinds of awesome. I actually have a pair of black sandals I call my toes in bondage shoes b/c of that book. That said, it'd be nice to read one I haven't before, which is pretty much everything else.
25. wsl0612
Do we have a pick yet? it's almost May and I need to get the book :-)
