Sidney Halston Excerpt: Last First Kiss

Sidney Halston

Last First Kiss by Sidney Halston

He's an A-list Hollywood heartthrob.

She's trying to prove herself in a man's world.

For this female bodyguard, protecting her client is simply business, but what happens when sparks fly and the danger heats up?

After a series of box office flops, Rocco Monroe needs a hit. Bad press, shit talking, rumors, lies…it all goes with the territory after almost two decades in the spotlight, but when he lands the role of his career in a controversial biopic, the part of a lifetime comes with a catch: a hired bodyguard.

Annabelle Clad is so bored she wants to scream. Her life is coding and algorithms and binary codes…rinse and repeat. To her Rocco Monroe means freedom, a chance to show her overprotective brother and business partner that she can contribute to Iron Clad Securities. And no arrogant playboy will fuck up her concentration by batting his lashes at her. She would never jeopardize her reputation by swooning over any man.

That had happened once, and she wouldn’t bear that loss or humiliation ever again. Even if Rocco looks like a walking fantasy...

CHAPTER ONE

Critically acclaimed director Steven Spelling has another controversial film in the works. El Traficante is the true story of Gabriel Mendoza, Colombia’s infamous drug lord—hated by many but idolized by more. Adding to Spelling’s unorthodox style, it is rumored that none other than American heartthrob and rom com king Rocco Monroe is set to play the cartel kingpin himself. This can make or break Monroe’s career after a series of box office flops. Monroe, known more for his abs and his latest sexcapades than his acting skills, will be . . .

Anger that had been at a constant simmer for the last two weeks was now boiling over. The less than complimentary writeup in Actor’s Weekly was just one of the many articles and news stories appearing on every entertainment channel and news rag since NHN Studio leaked the casting of El Traficante.

Unable to control his temper, Rocco tossed his iPad against the nearest wall. The sound of glass shattering did nothing to mask the roar that came from his lips.

Marry, Kiss, Kill: The Ultimate Alpha Archetype Edition

Kiss Marry Kill by Sidney Halston

Today we're thrilled to welcome Sidney Halston (Kiss Marry Kill) to Heroes and Heartbreakers. We love the title of her upcoming book and so thought it would be fun to play the game of the same name with her! Thanks, Sidney!

Let’s play Kiss, Marry, Kill with the three ultimate alphas:

  • The military man
  • The billionaire
  • The motorcycle guy

I had to put a lot of thinking behind this because the original game has f— instead of kiss, and let’s face it, it would be a lot more fun to f—one of these alphas than to just kiss him. But, alas, the name of the game today is Kiss, Marry, Kill.

Kill:

Ironically, Kill was the easiest. Obviously, I’d kill the billionaire because well, he’s rich and he’s leaving me all that money in his Will. Plus, the billionaire is normally kind of jerkish with all that pretentiousness and sense of entitlement. After a while, if he asked me to be ‘proper’ one more time, I’d probably want to kill him even without the billions.  So, the billionaire is gone.

Kiss Marry Kill by Sidney Halston

He's been chasing a memory . . .

It was just supposed to be a regular Thursday afternoon…and then he saw her. Sitting in seat L214, one seat over from his at the baseball game, right next to her douche of a soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend. An impromptu kiss for the kiss cam, and Jax knew his life would never be the same. Five years and a tour in Afghanistan later, Jax is back stateside running his own private security firm, Iron-Clad, with his best friend. He isn't the man he used to be... but Megan isn't the sexy and sweet, though sheltered, twenty-two-year-old he left behind, either. And she's in trouble.

...but now they're on the run.

Megan Cruz has made something of herself. She’s turned her dreams of pop stardom into a reality. But when a deadly stalker breaks into her home claiming to be her number-one fan, the only person she can turn to is the boy who got away. But Jax isn’t the same carefree charmer who stole her heart, then broke it when he joined the military. This man is seductive, hard, guarded. And he'll do anything to protect what's his.

Chapter 1

“Promise me, you’ll be happy,” he sang from the other side of the door. “Promise me, you’ll always sing. Promise me you’ll never settle. . . .” He jiggled the door handle. “Meggy? Where are you, my little mouse?” he said in a singsong voice, sounding nice enough. Soft enough. Safe enough. But Megan Cruz knew better. The man trying to lure her out of her enormous walk-in closet was deranged.

Megan huddled in a corner behind all of her cocktail dresses, her knees pushed up and a butcher knife in one of her trembling hands. Just waiting. Waiting for the cops to show up, or for Ryan to finally find her. If she could stop breathing, she would. Trying to stay perfectly still and utterly quiet was an impossible feat with her hands shaking so violently. Surely he could hear her fear from where he stood on the other side of the door. If he walked deep enough into the closet, the dresses that served as a barrier between them would not be sufficient to shield her. And the fact that he’d broken into her house in the middle of the night was a good indication that he did want to hurt her.

Gooey Center: The Sweet, but Tough Side of the Alpha Hero!

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop

Today we're thrilled to welcome authors Scarlett Cole and Sidney Halston to Heroes and Heartbreakers. Scarlett and Sidney are not co-authors, but write similar kick-ass alpha heroes in their books The Strongest Steel and Laid Out, respectively. The key to a great alpha hero, in our opinion, is that he has a sweet spot when it comes to his heroine. Scarlett and Sidney are here today to talk about the gooey centers of those alpha heroes we love—with visual aids, of course. Thanks, Scarlett and Sidney!

Note: Some of the gifs in this post are NSFW, so it might be best for you to save it for when you're tucked in for the evening!

What is it about the anatomy of a strong yet sweet leading man, a hero in any genre of romance, that leads us to fall in love with him, if only for the few hours it takes us to devour the story from cover to cover.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a cowboy, a pirate, a rock star, a tattoo artist or a cage fighter. They all have one thing in common… an anatomy that rocks our world. From the top of their (usually) tall heads, to the bottom of their size thirteen feet (because size matters, ladies), there are certain non-negotiables our heroes must have.

Full Contact: Exclusive Excerpt

Sidney Halston

Full Contact by Sidney Halston

Sidney Halston returns to steamy Tarpon Springs, Florida, where a hell-raising bad boy prepares to get down and dirty for the woman he loves.

How could she have been so stupid? When Jessica Cross decides to give her violently jealous boyfriend—the otherwise influential and charming Dennis Stavros—a second chance, she very nearly becomes a statistic. After weeks of healing from a broken rib and collapsed lung, and with Dennis behind bars, Jessica finally feels ready to come out of hiding. But will she ever be able to take a chance on love again with someone new?

Mixed martial arts fighter Slade Martin knows he has a bad reputation. Hell, he's probably earned it. So it won’t be easy to convince beautiful, vulnerable Jessica that she can trust him—that from the moment she walked into his life, she’s been the only one he’s wanted. Powerful and confident, Slade knows he can honor his vow to protect Jessica body and soul. Winning her heart will be another matter . . . but a woman like Jessica is worth the fight.

Slade hadn’t heard from Jessica all day. He’d called and texted her a few times, but she hadn’t responded. He had planned on going home to shower and get dressed before picking her up for dinner, but he was too worried. He’d called the Pier and Patsy had told him that Jessica had gone home about two hours ago after what turned out to be a very busy day at the bar. When she didn’t answer again, he decided to go to her house and check up on her. His mind was racing. Could she have had a car accident? Had Dennis gotten to her? Was she sick? By the time he arrived at her house, he was a combination of worried and mad. He got even madder when he saw her car parked in the front. Was she just not answering his calls? Had he done something wrong? Since when did he care this much, and why was he feeling so insecure? All these thoughts just added fuel to his mounting agitation.

Tattoos, Randy Couture, Warrior, and More: 10 Reasons to Love MMA!

Against the Cage by Sidney HalstonToday we welcome author Sidney Halston to Heroes and Heartbreakers. Sidney's Against the Cage comes out May 27, and the hero is a cage fighter who meets a bookworm and teaches her a thing or two. Sidney wants to gives us her top ten reasons of why she love—and why you should, too.

1. The men are seriously hot. Like…smoking hot. They’re muscular and mostly shirtless, at all times. Lots of testosterone, lots of alphas, and lots of hotness all locked up in one cage! I could probably end this list right here.

2. The coolest, sexiest tattoos you’ll ever see are on MMA fighters. These men are seriously into their tattoos, and it shows!

3. They love to talk crap to each other. It’s like watching people gossip—live. And what woman doesn’t like gossip? It’s very entertaining to watch.

4. Camaraderie. There is a sense of brotherhood among the fighters. Even though there is a lot of crap talking (see above), at the end, there is (usually) respect for one another and it is one of those swoon moments for me. I love to see the guys hug it out at the end of a grueling match.
