Kylie Scott Excerpt: Trust

Kylie Scott

Trust by Kylie Scott

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love...the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie's beginning to run wild, however, John's just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he's going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

Beep, beep, beep went the sales register, adding up my purchases. Excellent. Cute guy and I were ignoring each other. No further eye contact was made. This was the best of all possible outcomes. Human interactions in general were a trial, but attractive people were far and away the worst. They unnerved me. I always started sweating and turning red, my brain an empty useless place.

All of my loot got shoved into a thin white plastic bag, guaranteed to tear halfway across the parking lot. Never mind. I’d hold it against my front, stretch the bottom of my t-shirt out to bolster it or something. Easier than asking him to double bag it.

Kylie Scott on Dirty’s Meet-Cute, Plus-Sized Heroines, and Naked Vaughn (Spoiler-Free!)

Dirty by Kylie Scott

Ready to dive into Dirty? As part of our Heroes and Heartbreakers E-Book Club festivities for March, we're thrilled to sit down with author Kylie Scott as she sets up the book for us, including the idea behind Dirty's delectable meet-cute (in which the hero is *gasp*—naked), plus-sized heroines, and more!

Feel free to read this interview BEFORE starting the book, but come back next week after you've finished the book for the spoiler-y second part of our interview with Kylie, in which she spills about Dirty's ending and teases us about what's ahead for the Dive Bar crew in the next book in the series, Twist, which hits shelves April 11.

Now, onto some Dirty talk with author Kylie Scott...

Heroes and Heartbreakers: You give us a wonderful plus-sized heroine with Lydia; Was there anything you wanted to make sure you got right about her portrayal and especially her perception of her own body image?

Kylie Scott: It’s my goal to give heroines of all shapes and sizes a happy ever after. Advertising does a great job of making us all insecure about ourselves. I’d like to try and balance that out a little with some body-positivity messages and women who are a little closer to home to us readers.

Kylie Scott Excerpt: Twist

Kylie Scott

Twist (Dive Bar Series #2) by Kylie Scott

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot bearded bartender Joe Collins only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, fascinating, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman—except that she lives across the country. Soon they're emailing up a storm and telling each other their deepest, darkest secrets...except the one that really matters.

When Alex pays Joe a surprise visit, however, they both discover that when it comes to love, it's always better with a twist.

Chapter One

Screw playing it safe.

I stood outside the Dive Bar, hands shaking, heart crashing around inside my chest. Goddamn nerves. Let them do their worst. No way would I scurry back to Seattle and hide. Not now. Beware, beautiful hot man from the Internet. I had arrived. Yes, fate in the form of me, and a return-trip plane ticket, had come to Coeur d’Alene, northern Idaho.

Right. This was it.

I took a deep breath and fluffed up my hair (shoulder length and brown). My bestie, Val, had applied my makeup several hours earlier and the woman knew her shit. None of it would dare move. I smoothed out the creases in my dress (little and black). Shoulders back, boobs out, as per instructions. And okay, sure, my toes were turning into frozen stumps in the stupid sky-high black suede heels and my bare legs and arms were covered in goose bumps. But never mind. Val and the girl in the shop had sworn I looked amazing in this outfit. Definitely doable and about a billion times better than normal, care of the push-up bra above and the Spanx below.

Dirty: Exclusive Excerpt

Kylie Scott

Dirty by Kylie Scott

Love—on the rocks….

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her.

Lydia Green doesn't know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together.

Just when this runaway bride has nowhere left to turn, a handsome stranger offers her a broad, muscular shoulder to cry on. Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessmen she's normally drawn to. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and is facing his own crossroads. But Lydia's already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong—maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?

CHAPTER ONE

Fuck.

I stared at my cell phone, mouth slack in horror. Man, they were really going for it. Tongues wrangling, teeth clashing. There was no hesitation, no holding back, as they ground their bodies together. The angle and lighting were crap, but still plenty sufficient to catch all the porny action, god help me.

This couldn’t be happening. What the hell was I going to do?

From out in the hallway came voices, laughter, all of the usual sounds of happiness. About what you’d expect on your big day. The smut on the small screen, not so much. I didn’t want to see it, yet I couldn’t look away. Whoever had sent this to me had blocked their number. They could have only had one aim in mind, however.

PROLOGUE

Positive.

I reread the instructions, doing my best to flatten out the creases in the piece of paper one-handed. Two lines meant positive. Two lines sat on the test. No, not possible. My gaze darted back and forth between the two, willing one of them to change. I shook the test and turned it this way and that. I stared and stared, but just like with the first one sitting rejected beside the sink, the answer remained the same.

Positive.

I was pregnant.

The bathroom was a narrow, cramped space. Apparently the Ericsons hadn’t upgraded with the help of their son’s money. The house was an older-model, wooden two-story, surrounded with now-dormant flower beds. Photos lined the hallway showing all the colors that grew there in the spring, however. My mom loved gardening. She always fussed on the weekends in winter, never quite knowing what to do with herself. Usually she took up some expensive intricate craft that got dumped the moment the ground thawed. A sudden wave of homesickness washed over me.

Which was silly.
