Tell Me You Need Me by Joya Ryan

Joya Ryan
Tell Me You Need Me (Search and Seduce #1)
Entangled / November 16, 2015 / $2.99 digital

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

Playing dirty can be the best kind of fun…

Chloe Franklin wouldn't call herself a commitment-phobe, so much as she's allergic to anything long term. She loves the sexy, sweaty and intensely hot hours of the night that come before the sun rises, though. Especially when those nights are spent with Search-and-Rescuer Gage McGraw...

Gage loves his job, but there is one thing he's starting to like more than the rush of a mission—a stacked blonde with a mouth that haunts his dreams. Every time he steps foot in the sleepy town of Beaufort, he hooks up with Chloe. But he's tired of hooks-ups. He wants more.

Just the sight of Gage gets Chloe's blood going. Hot, bothered, and finally naked, she's ready for their night to start. But before he takes her, he whispers what his intentions really are…and then the games really begin.

Joya Ryan has put a delightful twist on the friends-to-lovers trope in her latest Tell Me You Need Me. Chloe and Gage have known each other for a couple years. They aren’t a couple, but they can’t wait to see each other each time Gage, a search and rescue man, comes to town.

Arrow 4x05 Olicity Heart-to-Heart: Our Ship is Solid

Note: This post contains spoilers of all aired episodes of Arrow, including last night's episode 4x05, “Haunted.”

TV Recap: Arrow 4x05 Captain's Log Olicity

Show/Episode: Arrow Season 4, Episode 5, “Haunted”

Ship(s): Oliver/Felicity (Olicity)

Last week’s episode spent quite a bit of time setting up potential friction between Oliver and Felicity. Both their former flames—in memory and in body—returned to reignite grief and loss. Felicity listened to Ray’s final message at the end of Episode 4, and it was destined to bring up more between her and Ollie. In Episode 5, Oliver learns that Sara is back, via Lazarus Pit.

Instead of spending time apart and ruminating on what this means, Oliver and Felicity spend some quality time on the couch in that fancy loft and talk like adults. I love it! It’s so wonderful that the show is treating their relationship with respect. Oliver admits that he thinks about all the people he’s lost, but that the way Sara was brought back doesn’t heal anyone’s pain.

Arrow 4x04 Olicity Heart-to-Heart: Here Comes Trouble

Oliver announces his run for mayor in Arrow Season 4, episode 4Note: This post contains spoilers of all aired episodes of Arrow, including last night's episode 4x04, “Beyond Redemption.”

Arrow 4x04 Captain's Log graphicShow/Episode: Arrow Season 4, Episode 4, “Beyond Redemption”
Ship(s): Oliver/Felicity (Olicity)

This isn’t a particularly Olicity-heavy episode, so let’s start with the candy: The salmon ladder is back! The fancy new Arrow Cave has the salmon ladder, and Felicity gets to watch Ollie work his way up shirtless. It was a great callback to when she used to watch him workout and have to pretend it wasn’t doing anything for her. Now she gets to gaze unabashed.

“Beyond Redemption” wasn’t about Oliver and Felicity. It was about unearthing secrets, and what happens under the weight of that knowledge. In regards to Olicity, this was a whole lot of groundwork. Ollie and Felicity are working well together. While they had eight scenes together this episode, they were primarily about working as a team to save the city.

Arrow 4x01 Olicity Heart-to-Heart: You Have Failed This Omelet

TV Recap: Arrow 4x1 Olicity in bed

Show/Episode: Arrow Season 4, Episode 1, “Green Arrow”
Ship(s): Oliver/Felicity (Olicity)

Note: This post contains spoilers of all aired episodes of Arrow, including last night's Season 4, Episode 01, “Green Arrow.”

TV Recap: Arrow 4x01 Captain's Log Olicity

It’s a rare and special thing to have a fan ‘ship go canon. It happened on Arrow, though. Felicity and Oliver’s chemistry was so off-the-charts that the writers decided to give in. At the end of Season 3, Ollie and Felicity rode off into the sunset together. Literally. Having handled the Ra’s al Ghul issue, they snuck away, out of Starling City.

The Season 4 premiere opens with another juicy bit of Olicity candy. This time with Ollie and Felicity living together in a suburb. We see framed photos of the two together and Felicity is attempting to make breakfast—and failing “this omelet”—and then getting all smoochy in bed. Ollie has had his back shoulder tattoo removed because he “no longer needs it.” She’s still working to get control of Ray’s company and jokingly offers it to Oliver as an early Christmas present.

Claimed (Outlaws #1)
Signet / October 6, 2015 / $7.99 print & digital

The bestselling author of the Killer Instincts novels “knows how to write scorching sexual tension”*. Now she really sets it on fire in a new series about men and women living on the edge of violence, sex, and life and death.

After a devastating war decimated most of the world, Hudson Lane has only known the oppressive life under her own father’s tyranny. She finally escapes, branding herself an outlaw and hunted by the Enforcers. Her best chance at survival is Connor Mackenzie, an aggressively sensual fugitive who opens her eyes to the wicked possibilities of a world without rules.

As the leader of a band of outlaw fighters, Connor can’t resist the beautiful stranger who asks for his protection. Despite his reservations, he agrees to introduce her to a whole new way of life. But when Connor discovers Hudson’s connection to the enemies of liberty, he wonders how far he can trust the woman who has abandoned all inhibitions to challenge every forbidden desire.

One of the best parts of reading romance is the escape of fantasy. We get to sneak off to a world where happily ever afters are a requirement. While the journey getting to that bit of “everything will be wonderful” usually has some rough emotional moments, we get that glorious escape every time.

Ronnie Douglas
Undaunted (Knights in Black Leather #1)
William Morrow / September 15, 2015 / $13.99 print, $4.99 digital

Following in the tradition of Kristen Ashley, Joanna Wilde, and Jay Crownover, this first novel in a sexy, dark New Adult series tells the thrilling story of a young woman who finds herself drawn to a Southern motorcycle club’s inner circle—and a dangerously hot biker.

Aubrey Evans needs to get her life back on track after her father is indicted for embezzlement. She’ll save college tuition money, hightail it out of small-town Tennessee, and steer clear of hard-muscled boys on motorcycles. Yet there’s no ignoring someone like Zion. A knight in black leather, Zion looks like every bad idea she’s been told to avoid, but she can’t resist him. Whenever she’s in trouble, he’s there. Appealing as his rough exterior may be, it’s the protective, principled man beneath that tempts her like crazy.

Zion knows Aubrey doesn’t intend to stick around. She claims to want only friendship, but he senses there’s a naughty girl hiding on the inside—one whose intense desires match his own. For now, he’ll be patient and play by her rules. Though he knows it’s just a matter of time before he weakens her resolve.

As they join forces to figure out who’s behind a local crime spree, it’s clear that the danger goes deeper than Aubrey guessed. And when she needs someone tall, dark, and undaunted to keep her safe, Zion intends to be there—now and always.

Do motorcycle club romance novels need to be gritty and violent to be engaging? Ronnie Douglas’s Undaunted suggests they don’t. Her fresh take on the genre is possibly the sweetest romance with a biker I’ve ever read.

Up in Smoke by Tessa Bailey

Tessa Bailey
Up in Smoke (Crossing The Line #2)
Entangled: Select / June 23, 2015 / $14.99 print, $5.99 digital

Never start a fire you can’t control…

Connor Bannon is supposed to be dead. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs, he's spent the last two years working as a street enforcer in Brooklyn for his cousin's crime ring. Through a twist of fate, he's now in Chicago, working undercover to bust criminals. But when a cute little arsonist joins the team—all combat boots, tiny jean shorts, and hot-pink hair—Connor’s notorious iron control slips.

Erin “she's getting away” O'Dea knows two things. She hates authority. And… Nope, that's it. When she's forced to operate on the “right” side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled blazes to the surface. The last thing she expects is a control freak like Connor to soothe her when she needs it most. Worse, something behind the sexy ex-soldier's eyes ignites a dangerous inferno of desire. One that invites Erin to play with fire. And one that could get them both killed…

Tessa Bailey writes the best dirty talking heroes.

So perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Connor, the hero of Up in Smoke, has a way with words. Here’s the deal though: He needs those words to make his relationship with the heroine Erin work. You read that right: His dirty talk helps to bring the hero and heroine together in Bailey’s second Crossing The Line novel.

Outlander 1x16 Jamie/Claire Heart-to-Heart: Into the Darkness Together

Claire tends to Jamie in Outlander Season 1, episode 16Show/Episode: Outlander Season 1, Episode 16, “To Save A Man’s Soul”
Ship(s): Jamie/Claire

This post contains SPOILERS for all aired episodes of Outlander, including Saturday night's Season 1, Episode 16, “To Ransom A Man’s Soul.” Enjoy!

Jamie/Claire captain's log for Outlander 1x16It can be hard shipping Jamie and Claire. We love them, and they’re obviously OTP material. Their chemistry is off the charts, their connection unquestionable. And yet we’ve had to witness some pretty awful circumstances try to come between them. As if the whole being married 200 years in the future wasn’t enough of a hurdle, Black Jack Randall tries to ruin these two—both as people and as a couple—repeatedly.

It hurts. We felt Claire’s pain last week at seeing the beginnings of what Black Jack planned to do to our dear Jamie. As much as we’d hoped they’d get all the nastiness out in one episode, Black Jack isn’t done with Jamie just yet. With the season finale, “To Save A Man’s Soul,” we have to go back to Wentworth Prison. This time, Claire & Co. are determined to save our sweet Scot.

Asking For It by Lilah Pace

Lilah Pace
Asking for It (Asking for It #1)
Berkley / June 2, 2015 / TK Prices

“This is who I am. This is what I want. Now I need a man dangerous enough to give it to me.”

Graduate student Vivienne Charles is afraid of her own desires—ashamed to admit that she fantasizes about being taken by force, by a man who will claim her completely and without mercy. When the magnetic, mysterious Jonah Marks learns her secret, he makes an offer that stuns her: they will remain near-strangers to each other, and meet in secret so that he can fulfill her fantasy.

Their arrangement is twisted. The sex is incredible. And—despite their attempts to stay apart—soon their emotions are bound together as tightly as the rope around Vivienne’s wrists. But the secrets in their pasts threaten to turn their affair even darker...

Reader Advisory: Asking for It deals explicitly with fantasies of non-consensual sex. Readers sensitive to portrayals of non-consensual sex should be advised.

Lilah Pace’s Asking for It comes with a spoiler-y warning on the opening pages. This isn’t your standard sexy tease line about erotic romance having graphic scenes. No, this novel comes with a trigger warning. It even uses those terms. This romance—and the book firmly falls into that category—features consensual sex where the participants play out fantasies of a very non-consensual nature.

First Look: Kit Rocha’s Beyond Innocence (May 20, 2015)

Beyond Innocence by Kit Rocha

Kit Rocha
Beyond Innocence (Beyond #6)
Kit Rocha / May 20, 2015 / $4.99 digital

For years, Jared has existed on the fringes of both Eden society and Dallas O'Kane's Sector Four gang. He travels between these worlds, protected by his money and power—money he earned selling his body, and power that comes from knowing secrets. He's untouchable—until he starts a new life gathering intelligence for the O'Kanes.

Lili Fleming walked out of Sector Five with a gun, the bloodstained clothes on her back, and an icy determination to survive. She finds herself in a world where people live hard and love harder, and nothing's more terrifying than how much the O'Kanes wake her up, make her feel—especially Jared.

Emotion is a risk he can't afford, and a complication she doesn't need. But neither can resist the lust simmering between them, and the sparks that could either melt the ice around both their hearts...or get them killed. Because the only thing more dangerous than loving an O'Kane is loving a spy.

With each new book in Kit Rocha’s post-apocalyptic erotic romance Beyond series, I fall more in love with Sector Four. I’ve loved seeing the way couples come together over time in this world, and that the timing always feels right. Beyond Innocence is no exception there.

Like the other full-length novels in this series, the ongoing arc is expanded and the big relationships get deeper. Before Kit Rocha's Beyond Innocence, we mostly saw Jared through Ace’s eyes. They are unofficial brothers. Jared continued servicing the bored women of Eden when Ace quit prostitution. We’ve seen them drinking before, and Ace’s continued pleas to get Jared to join the O’Kanes. It isn’t that simple for Jared.

We’ve also seen some sexual chemistry between these two before Ace finally found his soulmates in Rachel and Cruz. There’s still a sizzle there—more on that in a bit—but Jared is finally unraveled by Lili.

Outlander 1x12 jamie and claire captain's logThe Jamie/Claire ship took a glorious turn last week. Jamie saved Claire’s life (again) as she was condemned a witch. The bond between them reached new levels as Claire finally told Jamie where—or should we say when—she comes from. She told him everything including about her marriage to Frank. Jamie, being the man we love so much, took her back to the standing stones and gave her the chance to go back to Frank. Even with the promise of more danger and strife, Claire chose to remain in the past with Jamie.

It was the huge turning point in their relationship. Their arranged marriage is now a relationship of choice and love. They’ve both made moves to prove they love one another. Now they have to figure out how to live together and make that relationship work. Easier said than done.

Show/Episode: Outlander Season 1, Episode 11, “The Devil's Mark”

Last week’s episode ended with Claire being arrested for witchcraft alongside Geillis Duncan. We were all frustrated that she’d ignored all the good advice of staying at the Castle and dashed off to visit Geillis thanks for a fraudulent note from everyone’s favorite scheming teenager Laoghaire.

We begin this week’s episode, “The Devil’s Mark,” with Jamie off with Dougal MacKenzie (the man Geillis loves and who’s child she is caring) and Claire being thrown into the thieve’s hole, which is basically a storm sewer. It’s not the first time we’ve seen the old-school justice on Outlander (remember the boy with the nail in his ear?), but this episode took us into darker places.

Captain's Log graphic for Outlander 1x10Last week’s Outlander premiere saw Jamie and Claire returning to Castle Leoch and beginning to understand how their marriage will need to work. If you missed last week’s recap, I suggest jumping back and checking out the comments. There’s an intelligent discussion on the controversial scene from last week that is absolutely worth the read. And everyone also agrees that Sam Heughan is delicious.

Let’s jump into more of that deliciousness now, by chatting about episode 10, “By The Pricking of My Thumb.”

Outlander wasn’t about to let us forget that Jamie and Claire made up at the end of the last episode. This week we opened the show with Jamie pleasing his wife, and that Scot worked hard. Episode 9—“The Reckoning”—does something we haven’t experienced before: Takes us into Jamie’s point of view. I loved it. We didn’t get into Jamie’s mind in the novel, but here we get a glimpse. It was not only a delight to those of us who love the Scot, but also a real storytelling treat. We were able to witness the journey Jamie and his brethren make to save his wife from the hands of the man who tortured him. Smart storytelling there.

Leila's years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn't learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin . . .

Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn't like Vlad to feel fear, but he does . . . for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad's greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad's love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both . . .

Vlad and Leila have had a lot of hurdles to overcome in the Night Prince series. Many of the biggest burdens in their relationship have come from Vlad’s obstinacy. At first he didn’t like to be touched. He controlled who was allowed to see him without clothes. That was a big step for him back in the first book of the Night Prince series.

He’s pushed her away before because of the way he wanted to control everything. They made progress. He learned that relationships function in a different way in the current century, and if he truly wanted a partnership with Leila, he had to treat her as such.
