“You have got to be the most stubborn, infuriating woman I have ever met in my life,” he snapped, stalking to her until she was forced to tip her head back to glare up at him. “I’d rather face Congress than deal with you in a temper.”
“Me?” She jerked her thumb back toward herself in incredulity. “In a temper? What the hell do you expect when you go spoutin’ off your bullshit and don’t even know what you’re talkin’ about?” she demanded. “You have no right to judge my family any more than you have a right to judge me.”
“I wasn’t judging you—”
“The hell you weren’t. If you’re judging my daddy then you’re judging me. That’s my family Raeg. Mine.” She lifted herself to her tip toes, still far too short to go nose to nose with him. “And you will keep your ugly assed attitude contained. No, you won’t. You will leave.” Slapping her hands against his chest she shoved against it, hard.
And he didn’t even budge.
“Just get the hell out of my house now!” She couldn’t ever remember being so mad in her life.
“Will you settle down and talk to me?” He gripped her upper arms when she pushed at him again, holding her in place as she imagined all the different ways she was going to skin him out.
“Talk about what? Your nastiness with me and my family?” she exclaimed pushing against him and coming into full contact against his body.
His very aroused body.
A hard, mocking smile pulled at her lips, suspicion clouding her mind like a heavy, smothering fog.
“I know what your problem is. I’ve always known,” she sneered up at him, hating him, hating herself and all the impossible things he made her feel. “You hate yourself because I make you hard. Poor Raeg. He just can’t stand it because he wants to fuck the little Georgia hick that just isn’t good enough for him and all his fine aristocratic blood.” She laughed mockingly. “You think you’re too damned good to fuck the likes of me. But that dick of yours has other thoughts, doesn’t it stud?”
She’d tried – Good Lord above she’d tried for as long as she’d known him to be nice to him. To be sweet – even when she was insulting him. Her momma had taught her early how to be a nice little Southern girl and her god-mother, Margo Hampstead, had taught her the fine of art of slicing through the bullshit with a smile.
Raeg’s eyes narrowed on her, sexual tension fairly singing through his body
“Stud?” he questioned her softly.
“Stud,” she enunciated clearly. “I don’t remember stuttering. From what I understand, that hard cock of yours is in high demand. I guess I’m the only one that has to deal with your prick assed attitude. Aren’t I so lucky?”
It was gossiped about by every woman she knew that had ever shared a bed with him and his brother. She hated every floozy that had ever described just how good he and Falcon were as they giggled with satisfied pleasure.
“Summer, now would be a real good time to just shut the fuck up,” he warned her, the low, carefully modulated tone of voice just pissing her off more.
“What? That hit too damned close to the truth?” she charged, the rush of blood, the anger and hated need she felt for him clashing inside her senses. “I knew I liked Falcon better for a reason. His standards must not be nearly as high as yours, I guess, because I actually think he enjoyed being in my bed last night. I guess he can stomach fucking me a little better than you can. Right?”
God help him, if she didn’t stop saying ”fuck me,” he was going to come in his jeans. Every time the words slipped from her lips his cock seemed to harden further, his balls tightening with the need to take her again.
She did this to him.
Every damned time a confrontation rose between them, every time they began striking sparks off each other, his cock hardened like iron and his senses became consumed with the need to touch her, taste her.
They were combustible, he’d always known that. Last night had only proven it.
“I believe I did far more than just stomach it.” Falcon spoke from behind him, a curious, waiting sound in his voice, almost a question. “I was only awaiting an invitation for more.”
Raeg wasn’t certain what flashed in her eyes, a vulnerability, a flash of pain. Secrets.
Her secrets made him crazy. There were hints of them, shadows of them, but learning them was next to impossible.
“An invitation?” She directed the question to Falcon. “You wanted an invitation? People in hell want ice water. Your chances are about as good as theirs.” Her gaze shot back to his, filled with anger and disdain. And that damned shadow of pain.
They’d hurt her, and God knew he hadn’t meant for that to happen.
“I wasn’t waiting for a fucking invitation,” Raeg growled, sliding one arm around her waist and jerking her against him.
He didn’t give her a chance to curse him, to think or to consider a damned thing. Swiftly lowering his head his lips covered hers, parted them and tasted the fiery sweetness of a kiss he couldn’t seem to get enough of.
It was like setting a match to gasoline.
She should be kicking his ass out of her house, off her property, out of Georgia.
Summer whimpered, her inability to resist Raeg’s touch, his kiss and the dark dominance that filled him, shocked her. It shouldn’t be like this. She had never had a problem resisting any man when she wanted to. There hadn’t been a kiss or a touch she couldn’t deny no matter the circumstances, until Raeg and Falcon.
