If your annual strategy to surviving Thanksgiving and Christmas involves hiding from your family and cuddling with up with some paranormal goodness then you’re in the right place. Sure, none of these books are as scary as what happens when my family gathers together, but these action packed stories still promise to give you a thrill!
Dragon Storm by Katie MacAlister
TURN ON THE CHARM
According to some (including himself), Constantine is one of the greatest heroes of dragonkin who ever lived. Too bad he's now lonelier than ever and his biggest adventure involves a blow-up sheep—until he has an opportunity to save his kind once again. All Constantine has to do is break into a demon's dungeon, steal an ancient artifact, and reverse a deadly curse. The plan certainly does not involve rescuing a woman...
TURN UP THE HEAT
Bee isn't sure whether to be infuriated or relieved when Constantine pops up in her prison. The broody, brawny shifter lights her fire in a way no one ever has before, yet how far can she really trust him? Their chemistry may be off the charts, but when push comes to shove, Constantine will have to make a crucial choice: to save the dragons or the woman he's grown to love with fierce intensity.
Constantine is a cocky dragon with a fine ass. It’s a hilarious, quirky ride as he rescues the Charmer Bee, who is kind of trapped in hell. Bee has also had a relationship with a dragon before so she’s not keen to repeat the experience. If you have ever dated a DJ or an “actor” then you can probably relate. Anyway, there’s this dragonkin curse so Bee and Constantine team up to deal with that. And there’s also this demon lord thing. But it’s really all about the sexually charged situations that the two find themselves in. There’s also some of that bickering foreplay which is pretty amusing. Good times!
Born of Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Years ago, family loyalty caused Fain Hauk to give up everything he loved: His military career. His planet. His fiancée. Even his name.
Now decades later, everything has changed. He’s built a new life out of the ashes of his old, and he’s vowed to never let anything threaten his loved ones again.
But when old enemies align themselves with new ones, he’s caught in the middle of a brutal war. And when fate throws his former fiancée back into his world and she has her own agenda that includes taking his head for what he did to her years ago, more than just his life is at stake. The fate of the Ichidian universe and that of his brothers-in-arms hangs in the balance. Winner take all.
It’s killed or be killed, and never has the battle been more fierce…
Or more fun.
I’m all kinds of obsessed with second chance romances and Sherrilyn Kenyon is a goddess so I was looking forward to this one. We know that Fain left his fiancé Galene and abandoned his son years ago to run off and marry a human woman. Of courses he’s not the deadbeat that we imagine, there’s more to it than that and he just might deserve a second chance. This is an emotional ride as Galene and Faine work through their issues as their paths cross again. There’s also the brutal war against the League, with explosions and a growing body count. Enjoy another well-paced, intricately woven installment to the League series!
Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts
To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…
Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.
Sasha is the one who holds them together—the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.
But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars…
Six very different individuals are brought together on a quest to find three stars and protect them from evil. Sorta like Friends meets Harry Potter – except they’re handing out in Greece. With Nora it’s all about the relationships and that warm cozy feeling she gives us. Sasha is a reclusive artist from the mountains of North Carolina. She is plagued by nightmares but she’s able to them into paintings so it’s not all bad. When she joins the star quest, she meets Bran – and she’s already foreseen their relationship. Bran is a magician which is awesome because magic is cool. Anyway, he’s dealing with his own secrets and turmoil but it’s apparent that Sasha and Bran are fated.
Feel the Burn by G.A Aiken
War makes strange bedfellows.
I, Gaius Domitus, one-eyed rebel dragon king of the Provinces, know that better than most, since I have to fight off half my ungrateful family on a regular basis to keep law and order here in my lands. But I never expected to have to consort with a barbarian human woman.
Kachka is beautiful, if you like them fierce—and of course I do. But she keeps complaining about how spoiled and decadent I am, and how a feared Daughter of the Steppes has no time for foolish dragons. I think she likes my eye patch, though. It is quite dashing. With death always at our tails, we take our passion like we take our allies. As they say, love the barbarian you’re with…
Aiken continues to subvert gender stereotypes with the Daughters of the Steppes who firmly believe that men are a little too emotional and stupid for their own good. This makes for some pretty bad ass heroines and Kachka is no exception, like a member of the superior gender, she rescues Gaius (of course he needs help, he’s only a man). Anyway, then the two embark on another rescue mission to free Garbhàn Isle from this crazy cult. It’s good stuff. There’s also some great dialogue between this stubborn pair as they continually challenge each other. While Kachka may feel some love-hate between for Gaius, her feelings for the one eyed dragon’s one eyed monster are infinitely simpler (sexy!). It’s a fun world filled with chaos, magic and hilarity, which offset the carnage and violence.
Viking Warrior Rising by Asa Maria Bradley
Immortal Vikings are among us.
Leif Skarsganger and his elite band of immortal warriors have been charged to protect humanity from the evil Norse god Loki.
Under attack from Loki’s minions, Leif is shocked to encounter a dark-haired beauty who fights like a warrior herself. Wounded and feverish, the Viking kisses her, inadvertently triggering an ancient Norse bond. But when Naya Brisbane breaks away and disappears before the bond is completed, Leif’s warrior spirit goes berserk. If Leif doesn’t find her fast, he’s going to lose himself to permanent battle fury.
But Naya doesn’t want to be found...and he’ll do anything to find her. Because they’re both running out of time.
There’s an awesome blending of classic Norse mythology with modern super high tech enhanced humans and lab experiments here. Viking King Leif (who was obviously played by Chris Hemsworth in my very dirty imagination) leads a band of warriors sent back to earth to save the humans from the bad guys. Lab escapee Naya is Leif’s fated love, she keeps his berserker calm. There’s action and intrigue here. I also enjoyed the bromance vibe between all the warriors and their macho banter. This should please all those who dig horny Vikings.
