Today we're thrilled to welcome authors Scarlett Cole and Sidney Halston to Heroes and Heartbreakers. Scarlett and Sidney are not co-authors, but write similar kick-ass alpha heroes in their books The Strongest Steel and Laid Out, respectively. The key to a great alpha hero, in our opinion, is that he has a sweet spot when it comes to his heroine. Scarlett and Sidney are here today to talk about the gooey centers of those alpha heroes we love—with visual aids, of course. Thanks, Scarlett and Sidney!
Note: Some of the gifs in this post are NSFW, so it might be best for you to save it for when you're tucked in for the evening!
What is it about the anatomy of a strong yet sweet leading man, a hero in any genre of romance, that leads us to fall in love with him, if only for the few hours it takes us to devour the story from cover to cover.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s a cowboy, a pirate, a rock star, a tattoo artist or a cage fighter. They all have one thing in common… an anatomy that rocks our world. From the top of their (usually) tall heads, to the bottom of their size thirteen feet (because size matters, ladies), there are certain non-negotiables our heroes must have.
Regardless of whether he’s bearded or bald, redheaded or blond, hell, he can even have a man-bun, these men are walking contradictions that set our world on fire.
For example, one moment he’s willing to put himself in between us and danger,
And the next he’s making us breakfast…
Those eyes of his reduce us to puddles of goo.
…. But seriously, you don’t want to be on the receiving end of his death stare.
His mouth is just perfect. From the sweet way he smiles when he sees us…
…To the way he uses it on our bodies.
He says the sweetest things one minute, words that tilt our world when we hear them…
…or the hottest things that rev our engines when we least expect them.
With his arms, he treats us as if we’re light as a feather …
… but only a fool would confuse the sweetness he shows us with weakness, because those arms can knock someone out with a single punch.
He’s cool with us being in charge sometimes.
But in the bedroom he’s boss, and we have no problem with that!
And let’s not forget that body. He makes us feel protected while he intimidates the hell out of everybody else.
But before we appear shallow, the inside of these men is just as appealing as the outside. Without a smart mind and a wicked sense of humor… well…
So you see, the anatomy of a leading man is simple. These marshmallow bad-asses keep us safe while we are out in the world doing our thing. They make us laugh, and love us as hard as we deserve.
Laid Out by Sidney Halston
Perfect for fans of Monica Murphy and Cecy Robson, Sidney Halston’s scorching new MMA romance proves there are no holds barred when it comes to seduction. Growing up an Army brat, Violet Channing could never meet her dad’s high expectations. But in the eyes of her best friend, she could do no wrong. He even insisted that he should be her first kiss. Now Cain Sorensen is all grown up, hardened by years in special ops and always looking for a good fight. Tall, with striking blue eyes and impossibly blond hair, he’s a modern-day Viking warrior. Of course, Violet’s all grown up, too, and she’s ready to surrender to his every command.
Cain knows he’s bad for Violet. His work is dangerous, and his hobbies are downright deadly. As a private mercenary and a mixed martial arts fighter, he could never let such an innocent soul into his world. And yet his most grueling combat training is no match for Violet’s killer curves, hot touch, and suggestive glances. Now all of Cain’s most explosive fantasies are coming true—but once they cross the line between friends and lovers, there’s no turning back.

The Strongest Steel by Scarlett Cole
“An incredible story about healing, pain, and trust...you don't want to miss this one!” —New York Times bestselling author Jen McLaughlin
“I know what you're up to,” she said.
“And what would that be?” he asked with a devious smirk.
“Is it working?”
She looked over her shoulder to where he was still reclining against the wall, watching her patiently. All the reasons she'd vowed to stay alone, to remain uninvolved, fled as he grinned at her.
Harper Connelly never expected to find herself outside of a tattoo parlor at one in the morning. The scars that decorate her back are just one more reminder of things she'd rather forget, the past she wants to leave far behind her, but before she can move on she needs him.
Trent Andrews has his own reasons for specializing in inking over scars. And there's no way in hell he's going to turn Harper away. Not when a swirling mix of tenderness and desire slams into him every time her sees her. Being with Harper is like going 10 rounds in the ring-exhilarating, powerful, and dangerous. She stirs feeling in him he thought were long gone... if he can only get past her carefully constructed defenses.
Running was the only thing that saved Harper last time, but each session at Second Circle Tattoos brings her closer and closer to Trent. His lingering touches seduce her, making her believe in a life without fear, where she can be happy, whole, in love. But when cryptic messages start appearing on Harper's phone, strange deliveries arrive at her door, and Second Circle is vandalized, Harper is convinced that her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down, and worse, that he knows about Trent. She ran from her past once before, this time will she have the strength to fight back?

Scarlett Cole was born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada were I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.
Sidney Halston lives her life by one simple rule: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started” (Mark Twain). Or even simpler: “Just do it” (Nike). And that’s exactly what she did. At the age of thirty, having never written anything other than a legal brief, she picked up a pen for the first time to pursue her dream of becoming an author. That first stroke sealed the deal, and she fell in love with writing. Halston lives in South Florida with her husband and children.
