What’s Your Favorite Genre Right Now?

Beautiful Choice by Emily McKeeAs a regular visitor to Heroes and Heartbreakers, you probably read a variety of genres under the romance umbrella. And while we don't want to put you on the spot, let us ask you*:

If you had to choose your absolute favorite genre (in romance) right now, what would you say?

*we're totally putting you on the spot.

I've been reading tons of new adult lately. They're rather addicting!

RIGHT NOW, as of this very minute, I think I'm leaning toward romantic fantasy. Not that I'm reading one at the moment, but I keep wanting to pick them up and go on a binge-read. I read C.L. Wilson's The Winter King, and got recommended Mary Robinette Kowal's Glamour series, so I think that's where it's coming from.

Without a doubt contemporary books!

Interestingly enough, after years of reading solely Historical Romance, I'm knee-deep in Contemporaries. But I'm at the point where I'll read almost any genre (almost).

Romance/Suspense
Maybe because it seems new to me (I haven't read comtemporary romances since I was a teenager). Or maybe it's nostalgia; when I was a kid this genre was called "Mystery Romances".
I blame Nora Roberts.

A friend recommended "The Search".
Me: I don't read Nora Roberts. She writes CR. I don't read CR.
Friend: You love the Eve Dallas books.
Me: Those are Urban Fantasy.
Friend: "The Search" is R/S - trust me, you'll like it.

After "The Search" (and the rest of her R/S titles) I started researching more R/S authors. And I'm having a darned good time doing it, too! In fiction, I still read plenty of PNR and UF, but R/S is my newest love. Maybe someday I'll get around to CR!

RIGHT THIS MINUTE, if I had to make the choice, I would say "Contemporary Romantic Suspense"
My usual genre, however, is "Contemporary Erotic"

I'm on a time-slip historical kick these days!

Almost exclusively historicals, but including historical fantasy/steampunk/sci-Fi.

I'm into contemporary romance right now, but am trying real hard to stay away from the small town ones. I like the family or 'group of friends' series best, since I enjoy getting to know the characters throughout a longer story arc. Secret addiction is sports CR!

Like everyone else I'd say I'm reading a lot of contemporary romance, especially New Adult--which I'm loving--but what I WANT to be reading is some really great paranormal and unusual historicals (read: regency with a twist)

New Adult and Contemporary - total switch from my years of reading historicals, but through H&H I've found some really good reads :-)

I'd like to call my favorite genre Light Historicals. Authors like Julia Quinn, Katie MacAlister and Eloisa James. Where nothing really bad happens, the dialog is sparkling, and everyone is witty. Add in a grumpy old lady, a darling moppet, or poorly behaving pet and it's like catnip for me.

Not a genre per se but I'm having fun reading every Kristen Ashley book I can find.

The latest catnip genre for me is contemporary romance with a returning military hero which I trace back to reading Susan Mallery's Three Little Words last Summer. If there is a dog or a small town involved in the story the book is so on my Kindle. I still read a wide variety of fiction, including the Regencies which I favored for years, but I regularly feed what my husband claims is a SEAL addiction. :)

Contemporary western romances or sports romances for me. Don't do paranormal, fantasy or historicals at all.

I can't get enough of the paranormal so that's my absolute favorite genre, but I've been reading (and loving) a lot of suspense lately too.

I'm reading a lot of contemporaries lately, but that could be because there seem to be more available. If I had to choose ten books to reread indefinitely, most would be historical romance.

I 'm having a hard time deciding! I do love romantic suspense but am currently reading contemporary. I agree with Kareni about Kristen Ashley. I gobbled up several of hers over the past couple of months!! (Dream Man series...yum..)

Ah..well, not strictly romance per se, but since new Kate Daniels book , I am on a strong urban fantasy kick and if someone asked me I would say it is my favorite genre right now. ;)

Western historicals is my favorite overall, but right now I am loving the contemporary motorcycle series by Madeline Sheehan, Joanna Wylde and Kristen Ashley. Which is actually a bit odd for me, since I do not like erotica books. These are the only three authors I have found that I like who write in this genre.

I've really gotten into Motorcycle Club romances, there are some ultimate alphas in those books. Kristen Ashley, Joanna Wylde, Stephanie Tyler, Cara McKenna. If anyone has suggestions, let me know!

All over the place--contemps, historicals, fantasy. @MFrampton: loved The Winter King! Wish there was more pure romantic fantasy like that out there.

Paranormal erotica/romance (J. R. Ward, Nalini Singh, Angela Knight), steampunk (Garriger, et al), non-romantic paranormal (Simon Green, Jim Butcher), and always, always, re-reading Georgette Heyer.

I don't have a particular genre that I like. I try to mix my reading or listening up as much as possible. I have my favorite series such as IN DEATH, Joanna Brady, Kincaid & James, Amelia Peabody, & the Inspector Monk series by Anne Perry.

I like Mysteries & Thrillers, Comtemporary Romance, Historical Romance, and fiction that hits my fancy.
