NOTE: This post may contain SPOILERS for all aired episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, including last night's season 1 finale, 1x22, “Charges and Specs.” Enjoy!
As laugh-out-loud funny as Brooklyn Nine-Nine is, the series also has a lot of heart, and NYPD Detective Jake Peralta put his on the line for fellow officer Amy Santiago in the Season 1 finale.
After realizing he had feelings for her a couple episodes back and then pining for her all of last week's, Peralta finally confessed his feelings for Santiago—in a spectacularly awkward fashion for such a confident guy—before leaving for his undercover assignment:
I don't know what's gonna happen on this assignment, and if something bad goes down, I'd be pissed at myself if I don't say this: I kinda wish something...could happen...between us...romantic-stylez. And I know it can't, 'cause you're with Teddy, and I'm going undercover, and that's just how it is. Anyway, we're not supposed to have any contact, so I should go.
Awwwwww! That plus the earlier dance scene, where Jake teaches Amy a few steps while the two are posing as dance competitors, made for quite the romantic send-off. The wait for Season 2's gonna be killer!
