Beyond Jealousy (Beyond #4)
March 17, 2014 / $4.99 digital / $16 print
When Rachel Riley sacrificed a life in Eden to protect the O’Kanes, she earned her place in the powerful Sector Four gang. But the former crime princess is tired of being everyone’s sweet little siste . It’s time for her to get wild, to embrace her fantasies as only an O’Kane can—with a delicious exiled soldier and the gang’s wickedly sinful tattoo artist.
Lorenzo Cruz is a warrior, taught by his commanding officers in Eden that involvement equals distraction. Emotion is a liability, and desire a sin. In Sector Four, he finds decadence, shameless sex—and his own dark urges. No battle strategy prepared him for how Rachel makes his heart race…or the way his rival for her affections sets his blood on fire.
Ace Santana has a dirty reputation and a mind to match, especially where his new lovers are concerned. He’s eager to help Cruz embrace his dominant side, and to explore the lines between pleasure and pain with Rachel. But corrupting them quickly becomes an obsession, a need he can’t deny—and a love he never imagined.
Three hearts on the line means a hundred ways their ménage a trois could go wrong. After all, even O’Kanes do forever two-by-two. One of them could be the missing piece that makes them all whole…or a temporary diversion destined for a broken heart.
We’ve fallen hard for the folks who run Sector Four. Kit Rocha’s Beyond series has brought us gritty fighting, dirtier sex and a whole lot of underdogs to root for. Beyond Jealousy does a little more by bringing together the backing of the underdog and the dirty sex.
Ace has been in every Beyond book. He’s the smooth-talking tattoo artist. He’s soulful and has a filthy mouth. He’s serious about his art and causal about his kinks.
And he’s been downright obsessed with Rachel since the series started. Only he’s not particularly good at the whole love thing. He knows how to push buttons, he knows how to play games, and when those parameters aren’t there telling him what’s okay, he’s lost. So, yes, he’s screwed up with Rachel. A lot.
She tried being with Cruz, but his restraint only chafed her. This hot military guy had lethal force written all over him, but he was always extremely gentle with Rachel. The exiled Eden liquor queen was tired of being treated with kid gloves. She wasn’t as delicate as everyone treated her.
So what happens when all three come together? Really explicit things.
Ace is the underdog here. He has the passion, the sincere love for both Rachel and Cruz. The problem is he doesn’t think he’s worthy. A former prostitute who couldn’t detach emotions is going to have some scars. He’s out to do what he thinks is best for Rachel and Cruz, and that means have some fun and then bail.
Only the relationship isn’t going to work without all three of them. Unlike many other ménage stories, this is not about some wish fulfillment—though there are some fantasies granted. This is about a real relationship where all three parties are in love. This isn’t Ace and Cruz loving Rachel. The guys are in love, too, and that’s part of the struggle of the story. Everyone has to be willing to put their cards on the table, quit being strong for the others’ sakes and be honest about what will actually make them happy.
It’s a sweet journey with dirty, dirty sex in between. Basically, everything an O’Kane could ask for.
