Safe Words to Read: Five Books to Read After E.L. James’s Fifty Shades of Grey

Willing Victim by Cara McKenna

We’ve talked quite a bit about Fifty Shades of Grey and its sequels here at Heroes & Heartbreakers. We’re now getting tastes of the upcoming film, and it’s fueling a need for more billionaires and BDSM.

We’ve got your needs covered. We’ve found five top-notch erotic romance titles that will fill that Fifty Shades shaped void in your e-reader.

1. Willing Victim by Cara McKenna

McKenna is a master of writing emotional, boundary-pushing erotic romance. Willing Victim brings the BDSM factor, but it’s on this list for another reason. If what you really connected with in Fifty Shades was the emotional challenges Ana and Christian overcome, as well as the way they needed to not assume, Willing Victim will push your buttons. The romance is edgy, but the hero builds in a figurative safety net.

2. Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair

Want to read a novel that deals with BDSM in a way that’s sexy, emotional and—gasp—realistic? Sinclair’s Masters of the Shadowlands series promises extreme heat with complex heroines and heroes who make even aftercare sexy.

3. Sheltered by Charlotte Stein

Sheltered by Charlotte SteinDid you connect with Ana doing the things she never, ever considered doing? If the naïve heroine works for you, Sheltered will have you wrapped around its finger. The hero isn’t a billionaire, but he’ll charm you nonetheless.

4. Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha

Rocha brings a different point of view to the control aspect we see in much of this genre. If you love the push-and-pull inherent in loving an alpha male, and don’t mind an outlaw element, this novel is definitely worth your time.

5. Play With Me by Alisha Rai

Rai’s Bedroom Games series gives you the hot executive, for sure. He’s a self-made man. He’s got sexy predilections. With us so far? The twist? He and the heroine were high school sweethearts. They reconnect in his fancy Vegas hotel. Things get steamy fast, but will their past get in the way?

Am on Book 4 of Club Shadowlands and they are wonderful. The relationships between the Dom/Sub are touching, and realistic in any lifestyle. Love them all and can't wait to finish the series.
