The Billion Dollar Bachelor: A Billionaire's Club Story (The Billionaire's Club: New York)
St. Martin's Griffin / February 11, 2014 / $2.99 digital
Jax Morrow is a dangerously handsome, spectacularly wealthy entrepreneur whose world is turned upside down when Pandora Garret walks into a dark, smoky bar one night—a stunning combination of sex and innocence. He knows she’s trouble at first sight, but Jax can’t let her leave…unless she’s leaving with him.
Pandora has had enough. Kept under lock and key by her powerful, controlling father, she aches for freedom. When she briefly escapes and meets Jax she knows he is just what she has been looking for: forbidden, unforgettable passion. After one night in Jax’s arms, Pandora knows she can never go back to living under one man’s domination. Determined to control her own life she tries to resist Jax, but a dangerous desire rises between them—one that threatens to destroy them. But both Pandora and Jax discover that they just can’t be pulled away…
Let’s face it, billionaires are everywhere in romance these days. But in The Billion Dollar Bachelor, Jackie Ashenden adds a new and intriguing twist by introducing a wealthy heroine who is the daughter of a New York City crime lord. Pandora Garret lives in a gilded cage, put there by her father. Her only purpose is to serve as an accessory, to help him wine and dine his business associates. But one night she suspects her father has something else in mind. When she is left alone, she senses her chance for freedom and slips away from her bodyguard jailors.
If you don’t leave now that’ll be your future. You’ll go from one cage to another…
Her heart began to race. It was her birthday tomorrow. She’d be twenty-five. Nick had a party planned and had told her that he had a very special announcement to make. No prizes for guessing what that was. Her engagement no doubt. And once that was in place, there would definitely be no more opportunities like this one. Not ever again.
Pandora does take the opportunity to escape. But she has no money, no resources and no friends that she can call for help. In a slinky party dress and high heels, she can’t even run far. She ends up in a bar and catches the eye of Jax Morrow, a wealthy entrepreneur in his own right. The two exchange fake names: she is Snow, and he is Hunt. Then they agree to one night of pleasure with no strings. Pandora has never even been alone with a man, let alone had sex with one. She feels a strong attraction to the handsome yet mysterious Hunt and is eager to rid herself of her virginity.
However, they have quite the morning after when Nick Garret and his goons arrive at Jax’s bachelor pad. The glow of Jax and Pandora’s passionate encounter fades quickly with Nick’s arrival. Both learn each other’s true identity and then have to deal with Nick’s demands. He wants his daughter to return to him in order for him to marry her off to a business associate. But Nick sees a better option with Jax as his son in law.
“Easy boy,” Garret flicked his fingers and the men stood back. “I’m not intimidating you, Morrow. I’m blackmailing you. I want Morrow protection, respectability, and I’ll do what I must to get it.”
Pandora wants nothing to do with either man, but she has few options. Jax finally agrees to marry her, but mostly to get her out from under her father’s hand.
He was angry. No, shit, he was furious. And frustrated. And … possessive. Christ, he didn’t know where the hell that particular emotion had come from but it was certainly there. The thought of his Snow White being given like a thing to someone else was so not happening.
Jax looked Nick Garret in the eyes. “In that case, yes. I’ll marry your daughter.”
He really doesn’t have any intention of following through with marriage though.
At this point, Jax moves Pandora into his primary penthouse residence, determined to help her make her own way in the world. Because their attraction still runs deep, they continue their physical relationship, even as they continue with their pretend engagement. Eventually Jax has to take a chance and open up his heart to Pandora, while Pandora has to deal with her fear of ending up as rich man’s possession.
The Billion Dollar Bachelor is the first in a trilogy about the three Morrow brothers and their paths to true love. Jackie Ashenden does an excellent job setting up the next story in the series, The Billion Dollar Bad Boy featuring Jax’s brother Donovan. But here, Jax is a billionaire to behold, one who meets his match in the sassy and strong-willed Pandora. This one will satisfy those readers looking for more billionaire romances!
