January means new beginnings, resolutions and the end of re-runs on television. Specifically, it’s the month SyFy starts bringing back many of our favorite shows. The network has found its niche of giving us edgy supernatural shows with depth, and we can’t get enough. Better yet, they’re bringing two new shows to the small screen this month that look stellar.
And while, of course, we love the strong character arcs and the clever plots on shows like Lost Girl and Being Human… well, we like the—ahem—visual stimulation, too.
We’re about to get supernaturally prurient on you. It’s time to delve into the Top 5 SyFy Man-Candy Morsels for 2014.
1. Greyston Holt as Clay on Bitten
We might be biased when it comes to Bitten. If you’re not familiar, the new SyFy show is based on the Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. (Well, the first novel, also called Bitten.) The adaptation of this ass-kicking, werewolf series looks stellar from what we’ve seen.
Now, those who have read the books probably already have feelings (no spoilers!) about Clay, but I’m giving it up to him here. I mean, have you seen Greyston Holt get all wolfy in the trailer? We can’t wait to see everyone in the Jan. 13 series premiere.
2. Billy Campbell as Dr. Alan Farragut on Helix
We’re going to tune into Helix, which premieres on Jan. 10, for the possibilities. This show is executive produced by Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica), so he knows a thing or two about worldbuilding and giving 'shippers what they need. The premise is perfect for the times with lethal disease threats.
But this is about man candy! There are several delicious choices here, but based on trailers, we’re going with Billy Campbell. He plays the lead Dr. Alan Farragut. We like a mix of strong, smart and sexy here at H&H and Campbell’s got it.
3. Kris Holden-Ried as Dyson on Lost Girl
Did you really think we’d skip over Kris Holden-Ried? Please. There’s room for more than one werewolf on this list, and Ried has had us wrapped around his claw since the first episode of Lost Girl. (Not to mention his time on The Tudors.)
The new season of Lost Girl begins on SyFy on Jan. 13. (Our Canadian readers have already been enjoying this season. Lucky!)
4. Sam Witwer as Aidan on Being Human
Aidan is a vampire who is doing his damnedest to keep hold of his humanity. He makes mistakes. He still really loves blood. He misses being a father. He’s a conflicted guy, but somehow his angst never dips into mope territory.
Sam Witwer brings that charm to Aidan. He also brings a nicely sculpted torso. Really, it’s a win across the board.
Being Human’s new season begins Jan. 13.
5. K.C. Collins as Hale on Lost Girl
We have too much Lost Girl love to leave it to the wolf to hold it all down. No, we’re falling for Hale. The fae charmed us with his take-charge attitude and need to protect his friends. Also, snappy dresser. Even better when wearing less of said clothes, but we’re not here to complain either way.
