Shipping Sunday: Star Trek’s Kirk/Spock

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Kirk and Spock in Star Trek Into DarknessOn very rare occasions you will find two characters who exist solely to be shipped together. Mulder and Scully, David and Maddie, Castle and Beckett, Kirk and Spock. Possibly the poster men for the future, Kirk and Spock share a bond that is at the very least that of two inseperable friends, and at most (according to many fans) a couple that was simply meant to be. The 'ship was so key to Star Trek that you even get nods of the connection in the more recent iterations.  Whether or not you actually ship the Captain and his Science officer, there is no denying their chemistry, in both the Pine/Quinto version and the Shatner/Nemoy version.

Let us know what you think in the comments and tell us about your favorite Trek moments.

I am firmly of the belief that Kirk/Spock have an enduring friendship and "bro love" but no sexy times. I am not offended by m/m relationships but I have always been offended by the suggestion that there was a sexually intimate relationship between K/S because I believe there are loving and enduring friendships without sex. I think that's what they share, and that sex isn't necessary for people to connect and care for each other.
My bff and I have known each other for over 30 years and we've shared a house for fifteen. One of her lesbian friends was flabbergasted that 2 women would live together without sex, go figure.

I tend to agree with you WSL, but I do know folks who ship them romantically and can see the argument, and fun, in that ship.

I always wondered if TOS worked as well as it did because Shatner and Nemoy where as close of friends as they where. Which I DO believe is why the scene where they say goodbye in Wrath of Kahn is so lasting.
