Long before romance authors even thought of ripping any bodices, authors such as Mary Stewart, Victoria Holt, and Phyllis Whitney were carrying on the gothic tradition begun nearly two centuries prior (Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto, my buddy Wikipedia tells me).
Gothic romances are especially great to read around this time of year, since they share Halloween's enticingly scary aesthetic.
Do you read Gothic romance? Who are your favorites? What authors are writing in the genre now?
