With Diana Gabaldon's Outlander being made into a series for television, the eternal questions about the book inevitably return—is it a romance? (Gabaldon says not—but Diana! Look at Claire and Jamie!). Is it a time travel book? Is it historical fiction? Is it a way to embed knowledge about plants and nursing in a sly, entertaining way?
