Hey girl! Today we welcome Swoon Reads' publisher, Jean Feiwel, to Heroes and Heartbreakers. Swoon Reads is a new crowd-sourced teen romance imprint that engages authors and readers in collaboration. At Swoon Reads, writers can submit their manuscripts online, and readers will be able to read, rate, and comment on the submissions. The authors whose manuscripts are considered the most Swoonworthy will be offered a Macmillan publishing contract. Jean is here to talk about someone we might all agree we can swoon over—Ryan Gosling. Thanks, Jean!
I was late to Ryan Gosling. I didn’t pay attention to who he was until I saw Blue Valentine.
That’s a movie meant to rip your heart out. And it sure did and it made me wonder,” Who is that guy?”
Is that the guy in The Notebook? And Lars and the Real Boy? Ryan Gosling has that languid thing, coupled with way crazy intensity. Boom!
Then I saw him in Crazy Stupid Love where he was aloof, then warm and funny.
Cue the Dirty Dancing Scene with Emma Stone.
And then I saw Drive where he was protective and lethal. Such a loving combination.
I finally caught up with The Place Beyond the Pines. There wasn’t nearly enough of Ryan in that movie. Although the opening taking-off-his-shirt scene was a swoonworthy moment!
He was playing the character that suits him best: the emotionally damaged male. He does that better than any other actor I know.
I know that I am not alone in my inappropriate affection for Ryan Gosling. But I want you all to know that I respect him as an actor and not just because he’s the best looking man on the planet. I’ve explained this to Barry, my husband, through every Ryan movie I’ve forced him to watch. He doesn’t get it. But he’s just happy that I don’t make him watch Jonathan Rhys Myers in The Tudors anymore. That’s a whole other story…
Jean Feiwel is the Publisher of Feiwel and Friends and the Captain of Swoon Reads. She has always been considered an innovator in her illustrious and accomplished publishing career but may be best known as the creator of The Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin. (Jean wanted to be Mary Anne because she wanted Logan as her boyfriend, but then as life went on she turned out to be more like Kristy. Pushy.) She is an Aquarius with Scorpio rising. Creative, intense and not sorry.
