Megan: The Emmys were given out last night, and this year's awards ceremony seemed to elicit an enormous “meh” from the people who watched it...
Jennifer: Okay, so I might just watch awards shows nowadays for the fashion and any of the antics that may happen (Kanye West at the VMAs anyone?). But even for me, the Emmys could be called the Meh-mmys.
Heather: Wait wait wait, now hold up, one of us here did watch the whole show! And while there were some insane upsets (Jeff Daniels for Best Actor for The Newsroom, REALLY?), there were also some well-deserved wins for shows like Breaking Bad (why yes, I DID just spend the weekend watching Season 1 of BB—better late than never, right?). Plus...Neil Patrick Harris! I thought he was a very entertaining host, personally, and I loved the cameos from previous hosts (Amy and Tina stole the show again) and Nathan Fillion.
And now, onto the fashion, which is what
some all most of us were watching for; you can check out the Emmys Fashion Slideshow to play along:
Claire Danes — She looked perilously close to being that way-too-skinny chick at the gym who is always there working out, even though she's a scarecrow. And you want to say something, only it's weird and inappropriate to go tell a complete stranger that she looks ill. Yes, she's a working actor, but she doesn't have to SHOW us how damn skinny she is. Plus, find a gown that fits.
Lena Dunham — If only she didn't make it so easy to make fun of her. That dress was pleasant enough in theory, but horrible in execution. If you are that lacking up top you should perhaps not wear a low-cut fitted bodice that doesn't fit.
Christina Hendricks — Speaking of finding something that fits and is flattering, Christina Hendricks finally did! She favors wearing black, which makes her zaftig figure look sort mushy rather than totally sexy. But this black gown actually looked good.
Mindy Kaling — Another plus-sized/curvy girl who knows how to dress her body. The rich burgundy/plum of her dress looked great with her skin and the fit perfectly hugged her curves! However, her hair fell a little short (pun always intended) for me!
Robin Wright — Who says turtlenecks can't be sexy! She stayed conservative and age appropriate, but looked super sexy with a turtleneck fitted dress, featuring deep V shear cutouts.
Connie Britton — She's on at least one worst-dressed list, but this Friday Night Lights fan really likes it. And her hair is gorgeous as always.
Malin Akerman — Props must also go to this over the top and dramatic dress and the svelte figure this new mom was rocking underneath. The color was perfect and the texture saved it from being boring.
Sarah Silverman — She should be hailed just for wearing a $60 dress to the Emmys and still looking amazing! Who needs $7 million in jewelry (I'm talking to you, Sofia Vergara).
Julia Louis-Dreyfus — Not only did she look fantastic in gold (at least according to one H&Her's, admittedly untrained, eye), but her acceptance speech—in which Veep co-star and fellow Emmy winner Tony Hale held her purse and fed her her lines about being grateful to her family and cast—was hilarious.
The only speech that could top JLD's is probably Merritt Wever's:
Did you watch? Who made your best/worst-dressed list?
