Immortally Ever After (Monster M*A*S*H #3)
St. Martin’s Press/ August 27, 2013/ $7.99 print/$7.99 digital
The hard-won cease-fire between the battling immortals doesn’t last long. In the blink of an eye, human surgeon Dr. Petra Robichaud is back on the frontlines, and starring in yet another of the oracles prophesies. As the only healer who can talk to the dead, Petra doesn’t have much choice about her role—even when her breathtaking ex-lover shows up at exactly the wrong time…
Petra may have moved on when Commander Galen left her, but she never forgot him—and the passionate moments they shared. Seeing him again is a distraction she really doesn’t need with both armies honing new weapons, and wounded all over her M*A*S*H unit. But how can she resist him? It’s now or never for the demi-god Galen to become Petra’s mate…but with the fate of humanity at stake, will their desire be worth the cost?
Angie Fox delivers again with this third (and final?) installment of her Monsters M*A*S*H series. Fox has skillfully created an eclectic mix of supernatural’s and mythological gods with an occasional human on the side. Combine that with a humorous storyline that doesn’t go over the top and Immortally Ever After is laugh out loud funny.
Dr. Petra Robichaud is back on center stage as the star of the world changing prophesies. Our plucky heroine isn’t without backup. She has not one, but two, breathtaking hotties vying for her love. Marc, the dragon shifting surgeon, her first love, has reemerged after ten years and is busily making up for lost time. Contender number two is special ops soldier and former demi-god Galen of Delphi, who was stripped of his immortality for being with Petra. What is a girl to do? It’s obvious what she has been doing.
There is no denying that Marc and Petra share a special bond and when the two of them are together, the sparks fly. But it’s complicated for Petra. When Marc miraculously reappeared in her life, they tried to build a new future. To Marc, it’s as if the last 10 years apart hadn’t changed anything. Marc may be in denial that they can pick up where they left off, Petra is more pragmatic.
I still couldn’t believe this amazing man was kneeling in front of me. “I know I only just found you again, but Petra, I love you. I can’t imagine life without you.” He stood, a smile tickling his lips. “Will you marry me?”
Hell and damnation.
I would have. I should have. But that didn’t matter now.
Yes, he’d been my first love and I’d been overjoyed to find him again, but I’d just found him again.
I wet my lips, realized I was shaking. He’d been gone for ten years. Now we were in the middle of a war. We couldn’t expect it to feel like it used to feel.
Or maybe I was just a complete commitment freak. Marc was a good man. He was smart and considerate and he had that annoyingly beautiful adventurous streak. He came from a warm family, a loving home. And he wanted to re-create that here, as much as we could. I loved him. There was no reason not to want to be with him.
For the rest of my life.
But, it seems the fates (those bitches) have something else in store for Petra as Galen shows up at the M*A*S*H Unit in need of medical attention. But, he hasn’t arrived alone. With him is a scantily clad, extremely gorgeous, dragon shifter whom he has risked his life to rescue. Petra is beside herself with jealousy because being in the same room Galen has reignited all the passion and love she feels for him.
Galen has his work cut out for him as he must not only convince Petra to keep his presence a secret, he must convince her that he truly loves her and that they should be together. Galen has his work cut out for him, but fortunately Petra can’t seem to keep her hands (and mouth) off of him.
At this moment, it didn’t matter that he was leaving, that this war would never end. He was here with me. Alive. Protecting me.
I curled my finders around the back of his neck and kissed him.
His breath whooshed in surprise before he took me in a searing kiss that made me forget everything but the heat of his lips and the feel of him against me.
We were alive. We’d made it and I was dammed if I was going to let this moment pass.
Heat poured through me as I met him full force with lips and teeth and tongue. It was impossible and insane and I needed it more than I needed my next breath.
It seems that Petra has some serious decisions to make. Marc represents her pre-war past, safe and secure. Galen represents all that her life could be. Oh, yeah, she is also the star of the war ending prophesies. Petra has a lot to accomplish if she is going to make a difference and change the world. Luckily for her, her newest BFF Medusa, and the rest of her friends have her back. Juggling two men and saving the world? It’s all in a day’s work for Dr. Petra Robichaud.
