San Diego Comic-Con 2013 News Roundup: Age of Ultron, Khal Drogo, Fassbender & McAvoy, Catching Fire, and More!

Fassbender and McAvoy at the X-Men panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2013Reporting to you live on San Diego Comic-Con 2013 from...Atlanta?!

Team H&H is still at RWA 2013 (see our post on tonight's 2013 RITA & Golden Heart Awards Ceremony), but we just had to share some of our favorite news tidbits coming out of Comic-Con, like...

Avengers 2 has an official title! Writer/director Joss Whedon announced today that the sequel to last year's smash hit will be called The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Apparently, in the comic book storyline by Brian Michael Bendis, a lot of superheroes die. Gulp! Now we're worried for our favorites (Iron Man! Black Widow! Hawkeye! Cap! Okay, all of 'em!), not to mention our favorite relationships (Hawkeye/Black Widow and Pepperony, for instance).

Footage from Marvel movies Thor: The Dark World (out in November), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (out next spring), and Guardians of the Galaxy (out in Summer 2014) was released, and the casts appeared on stage for the panels. Apparently Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff does in fact have a big role in Cap 2, and she and Steve form quite the odd couple. (But where's Hawkeye??? I still need to know.) Anthony Mackie's Falcon sounds like a major badass. Then there's Doctor Who's Karen Gillan, cast as Nebula in Guardians, who said she shaved her head for the role and then threw her wig into the audience (AWESOME). Oh, and Tom Hiddleston addressed the audience in costume as Loki and the fans just LOST IT, of course:

Game of Thrones and Jason Momoa/Khal Drogo fans will be pleased to hear that Momoa popped into the GoT panel to surprise his beloved Dany a.k.a. Emilia Clark and it was just the greatest.

DC Comics announced that they will be releasing a Zack Snyder (Man of Steel)-helmed Batman-Superman teamup movie in 2015 and a Justice League movie in 2017.

The cast of Lost Girl met up to give fans a sneak peek of what's to come in Season 4, while the Orphan Black panel shed some light on what to expect in Season 2 (which will debut in April 2014) and how Dylan Bruce (Paul) Googled pictures of his (very fine) ass????

There's a new trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire that could give you allll the feelings. And speaking of movies based on best-selling YA series, Divergent also had a Comic-Con presence and showed some early footage (yay!).

The entire pilot episode for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was screened and a panel with the cast and creators was had, and IGN later interviewed the actors playing Fitz and Simmons and talked a bit about the shipping potential there (see, I'm not alone in my wishful shipping of FitzSimmons!).

A bit of The Vampire Diaries Season 5 footage was revealed (woo-hoo!). Entertainment Weekly has more on the TVD panel with the cast.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender sat next to each other for the X-Men: Days of Future Past panel (and/or press conference? were there two panels? help me out, internet!) Anyway, so. much. hotness!

The How I Met Your Mother cast came out to talk about the show's upcoming final season (all the tears!). Plus they posed for some hilarious photos.

Lost's Naveen Andrews, it was revealed, will be joining the cast of the fall TV show Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, while the original OUaT will reportedly feature The Little Mermaid's Ariel in the new season.

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas spilled the beans on a tie-in book series that will be set immediately after the events of the forthcoming Kickstarter-funded movie, and said he hopes the VM movie will be the launch of a film franchise. More LoVe in the air?

All of this is just the tip of the iceberg. LOTS of cool stuff going on in San Diego this weekend. I'd love to hear what you think of it all, and to fill me in on anything I've missed!

Ok....... Who came up with Pepperony?!?! And they had better not have any tragic storyline. Looking forward to the movie, at least I was....

@sk1336 -- I'm not sure who came up with Pepperony but it's a pretty popular way to refer to Tony and Pepper in the Avengers fandom. :)

I know, I hope they don't have a tragic story either, but it IS the comics and they can get pretty dark. The good thing, though, is that even when people get killed off in comics, they are often known to come back!
