It’s that time of year again, when the major TV networks unveil their fall schedules and we get a little glimpse of what we might be obsessing about at the water cooler from September to May. Here’s a look at the schedule and, more importantly, new shows that CBS announced at its Upfronts presentations in New York City today (the CW will present tomorrow):
CBS's Fall 2013 Schedule (all times ET)
8-9 p.m. — The Amazing Race
9-10 p.m. — The Good Wife
10-11 p.m.— The Mentalist
8-8:30 p.m. — How I Met Your Mother
8:30-9 p.m. — We Are Men (COMEDY) –Left at the altar, a betrayed bridegroom (Paranormal Activity 3’s Chris Smith) moves into an apartment complex and gets advice from three older but-not-so-much wiser dudes played by Jerry O'Connell (The Defenders), Kal Penn (House), and Tony Shalhoub (Monk).
9-9:30 p.m. — 2 Broke Girls
9:30-10 p.m. — Mom (COMEDY) –The return of West Wing alums to TV continues! A newly sober single mom (Anna Faris) moves in with her own mother (Allison Janney) to get her life back together. With these two funny ladies on board, this might be the best of the surprisingly large bunch of sitcoms this season where adult kids move in with their parents (or vice versa).
10- 11 p.m. — Hostages (DRAMA) –Toni Collette (The United States of Tara) stars as a surgeon who’s called to operate on the President… and then her family gets kidnapped. Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story) plays an FBI agent with a connection to the President and a “surprising role.” Hmm, could he be a villain in disguise? Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, expect a lot of high-octane thrills in this one.
Ship Watch: Ellen/Brian; Ellen/Duncan?
8-9 p.m. — NCIS
9-10 p.m. — NCIS: Los Angeles
10-11 p.m. — Person of Interest
8-9 p.m. — Survivor
9-10 p.m. —Criminal Minds
10-11 p.m.— CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
8-8:30 p.m. — The Big Bang Theory
8:30-9 p.m. — The Millers (COMEDY) – The recently divorced Will Arnett plays…a recently divorced guy whose parents are also having marital problems. Arnett’s got a spotty track record—Up All Night went down in flames and HOW COULD ANYONE LEAVE AMY POEHLER? – but Margo Martindale and Beau Bridges (as his parents) are aces!
9-9:30 p.m. — The Crazy Ones (COMEDY) – So let’s imagine that Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mork from Ork are a father-daughter team who work in advertising — minus the superpowers. Is it a match made in the hellmouth? They both can slay with a quip, and creator David E. Kelley, taking his first stab at an actual sitcom, does love his quirky humor.
Ship Watch: Sydney/Zach (a colleague played by the fetching James Wolk?)
9:30 – 10 p.m. — Two and a Half Men
10 – 11 p.m. — Elementary
8-9 p.m. — Undercover Boss
9-10 p.m. — Hawaii Five-0
10-100 p.m. — Blue Bloods
CBS's Spring 2014 New Shows
Restless (DRAMA) – Sparks fly in this North-meets-South legal drama featuring a beautiful South Chicago litigator (Annie Wood) and good ole’ Southern boy (Twilight’s Cam Gigandet) facing off in the courtroom as a disgraced cop files suit against the Charleston, SC police department. The controversial case shakes up the sultry Southern town as good as any John Grisham novel. Shawn Hatosy (Southland), Adam Rodriguez (CSI Miami), and Kim Wayans (In Living Color) also star.
Ship Watch: Jamie/Roy v. Jamie/Preston
Intelligence (DRAMA) – Sawyer returns! Lost’sJosh Holloway stars as a sexy supercop, who has a microchip implanted in his brain that enables him to access the entire electromagnetic spectrum. (Someone was down in that Hatch a bit too long, eh?) Marg Helgenberger (CSI), Meghan Ohry (Once Upon a Time) and Michael Ealy (Emily Owens MD) co-star.
Ship Watch: Gabriel/Riley? (He’s married, but UST possibilities…)
Friends with Better Lives (COMEDY) – The Beek is back! James Van Der Beek stars in this ensemble comedy about a guy reluctantly re-adjusting to single life (but still pining for his ex) with the help of his paired-off friends. Kevin Connolly (Entourage), Majandra Delfino (Roswell), and Brooklyn Decker (The League) all help encourage his misery.
Ship Watch: Will/Ex-wife; Jules/Lowell
