A Room with a View: The Kiss

There's been discussion here at Heroes and Heartbreakers about romantic scenes in film, from Love Actually to the various iterations of Pride and Prejudice and the John Hughes oeuvre.

One film that seldom comes up in discussion, but is no less—and perhaps more—beautiful is A Room with a View, starring Julian Sands, Helena Bonham-Carter, Daniel Day-Lewis, Maggie Smith, and Rupert Graves (among others). In this scene—the kiss scene, of course!—the group is in Italy, where they are inspired by the Italian landscape. The best moments are right at 3:30, but the whole thing is worth a look (as is the entire film, if you haven't seen it).

@redline_ Heather, it is SUCH a gorgeous film, and such amazing acting, too. Le swoon.

This is one of the best romantic movies EVER. I think I must have watched it about 20 times. The entire cast is fantastic. The naked bathing in the "lake" scene is hilarious and so much fun. It is a very different version of Daniel Day Lewis than he displays in other movies. And the whole story is really very lovely. Can you tell I just LOVE this movie?

Which reminds me, I haven't watched it recently -- maybe it's time ! This is one of my comfort movies ...

My favourite Merchant/Ivory film. Everything is perfect. And it isn't spoiled by reading the book first or after. You can look at them as two separate entities, which is often difficult when books are translated to film.

My all-time favorite movie.

No lie...my brother (who is 4 years older than I am) knew I loved this movie back in the 80s. When he asked me what I wanted for my 16th birthday, this was all I could come up with. He was 20-years-old and broke and VHS tapes (at that time) cost a fortune. But, he pooled all of this savings, and convinced the local video store to sell him the tape for $78.

It's still one of the things I'd grab if my house was burning down.
