What Romance Film is the Best?

Love that you used a still shot from Mr. and Mrs. Smith. That movie gets my vote. Going back a few decades...Flashdance. That ending gets me every time (the dog, the flowers...come on) Also, You've Got Mail (yes, I'm a sap at heart. But they had me at books and the Upper West Side).
Least romantic: Damage and Closer.

I loved Closer, but yes, totally agree it is NOT romantic!

For me, I think Moonstruck probably gets my vote. I love all parts of that film.

@MFrampton - Okay...Titanic. There. I said it. I hope this is a "safe" place to admit that I still tear up at that song.

@jamieloganbrenner: We don't judge here (well, not much). I have yet to see Titanic (I know!), but it is romantic, that's for sure.

And although I am not a big Nicholas Sparks' fan my mom made me see the movie where Gena Rowlands had alzheimer's, was that The Notebook? I thought that was romantic, but really most because of Gena and "Maverick" ;-)

The Last of the Mohicans. It gets bonus points for the soundtrack. Or for something funnier, I've always adored 10 Things I Hate About You.

I love Casablanca - and I'll cop to Titanic too - but I want my HEA.

@juliabroadbooks -- I adore the soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans too. "The Kiss" and "Promontory" end up in lots of my playlists.

I also have to confess that I adore both "Overboard" and "Coming to America" -- my '80s tacky inner-child sometimes takes over!

I love "For Love of The Game" with Kevin Costner. Romance and baseball, what more could one ask for?

@Megaera - I fell in love with Dennis Quaid on that one, but I never thought of it as romantic. I'll have to go and rewatch it. :-D

Icutmyteeth- FINALLY someone who appreciates the beauty that was Lars and the Real Girl. That movie was underated and I think a lot of people got the wrong impression because of the "real girl" doll that was used. Anyone who loved Ryan Gosling in The Notebook will love Lars even more!

Sabrina - the remake with Harrison Ford. Come on - you've got Harrison in his prime, Paris, love, romance, did I mention Harrison. When I need romance I more often then not pull this out. Also, Crazy, Stupid Love - the Dirty Dancing scene - so romantic. Could you imagine running into a special someone and having them lift you up like that while the song is playing - sigh.

Notorius with Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant.That final scene where Cary rescues Ingrid from the nazi's house gets me every time.

An Officer and a Gentlemen--It came on TV last week and I hadn't seen it in about ten years. Still holds up and I still get choked up at the end--seen several times.

In the Mood for Love--a beautiful and touching Hong Kong movie from 2000.

Oh, I almost forgot Love Jones and Claudine.

Oh...Cinema Paradiso IS one of the all-time most romantic movies. Especially when the grown up "Toto" watches the spliced kiss scenes near the end of the movie.

No one mentioned Out Of Africa, but I always found it to be heartbreakingly romantic (in a sad way).

When Harry Met Sally was also romantic, with those cute married couples telling their stories, and the best friends turned lovers ending.
