Today, at long last, Nalini Singh has revealed the cover and title of her June 2013 release, Heart of Obsidian.
Note: Heart of Obsidian speculation below
Singh has teased and taunted readers with the highly anticipated release of the twelfth book in her Psy-Changeling book for months now. Longtime fans of this highly addictive series have waited YEARS for the reveal of this one book. Finally—will we learn the story of the sexy, deadly, and oh-so-cold Psy Councilor Kaleb Krychek? Or, will Singh bring us the story of the ever elusive Ghost? Will she finally reveal that Kaleb and the Ghost are the same person? Or will she prove to us, once and for all, that Vasic is the Ghost?
The Psy-Changeling series is one of my top ten YOU MUST READ paranormal romance series to date. I absolutely adore the world Ms. Singh has created and find myself re-reading this entire series often. Filled with nonstop action, suspense and mystery with a healthy balance of hot steamy romance, and some light-hearted moments as well. Dynamic characters and multiple interactions throughout the series allows us to get to know all of the characters intimately.
It’s everything you could want in a series and more.
This series is set in a futuristic alternative Earth and populated by three groups: the Changelings, the Psy and humans. The changelings are shape shifters. The Psy are humans with psychic powers who voluntarily “silenced” their emotions. The Psy is the largest and most powerful ruling body on Earth. The constantly evolving main storyline tells of the battles and eventual war brewing between the three groups and the struggles within each group.
Nalini has created a self-sustaining world that continues to delight and intrigue readers. Each story features a different hero and heroine who meet, fall in love, and fight for their love in this turbulent world.
Let's talk about the cover. Have you ever seen anything so beautiful in your life? The lone man walking into the burning city just screams loneliness, despair, and rage.
Is this Kaleb?? Is this the Ghost?? Are they one and the same?? If this is Kaleb’s story, will we finally learn what happened to him as a child and who the mysterious woman he searches for, is? If this is Ghost's story, will we learn why he became rebellious and waged an insidious, hidden war on the Psy?
Unfortunately, while Singh has revealed the cover, she will not be releasing any information concerning the storyline till closer to release date in June. *sob*
So, let’s start detecting. Obsidian means black and Kaleb wears black. He is also known to be cold and, well, black hearted. So...the “heart of the black.” Conincidence?
I have my suspicions. Nalini Singh is known to be very, very tricky. Black could signify Ghost and his unknown identity, which brings about a whole new set of neuroses. Ghost has already stated he doesn’t really care about anyone; only the netmind. He cannot let it fall and will sacrifice any all all to save it. It could be a reference to the blackness of the netmind. It is two separate entities, depicting good and evil. The burning city could be a play on the war that has been brewing in the horizon, finally coming to a head or the warring in a man’s soul. His loyalties torn between his conditioning and his convictions.
Either way, fans are rejoicing and more than ready for this book to release. Hopefully, June will come fast.
So tell me, who do YOU think it is and why?
