Hero: To Be Announced

In the First Look for Susan Carroll's The Lady of Secrets, one of the Secrets the lady has is which of the two men in the book is the hero.

Those books go beyond the usual 'torn between two lovers' trope; in this case, the reader isn't even sure which guy is the right one for the heroine.

What other examples of Hero To Be Announced books can you think of?

Two examples that spring to mind right away are Libby's London Merchant by Carla Kelly and The Duke's Wager by Edith Layton. I'm trying to think of other examples, though!

Split between two heroes? Hmm, I'm thinking of the Sookie Stackhouse series (but the decision got cleared up around book 6). It was a toss up between Bill and Eric, and then Alcide, and then Quinn...

Mercy Thompson, who was torn (for a while) between Sam and Adam. I'm re-reading the series now, and I'm still a bit startled by Mercy's final choice. I think I would have had a more difficult time deciding ...!

And in Beautiful Disaster, for a time Abby is drawn to Parker before ultimately returning to Travis.

Okay, I thought of one more. In Jennifer Haymore's A Hint of Wicked, the widowed Sophie mourned her much-loved husband Garrett for seven years before marrying his cousin and heir, Tristan. Garrett was believed to have died at Waterloo; much drama, soul searching, and a very erotic dream ensue upon his return.
