Many romance novels have revenge as a motivating factor in bringing the hero and heroine together—and apart. Sometimes the revenge seems justified; other times it just seems ludicrous.

What are the best and worst examples in revenge tropes in romance novels?

I always loved the heroine's plot to poison the hero in the first chapter of Anne Stuart's A Rose at Midnight. I was quite disappointed when she wimped out because of a dog!

@EvangelineHolland, that's one of the revenge books I was thinking about when I was writing this! I loved that concept, that book might've been the first time I encountered it.
