Are You Reading J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy?

J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy

J.K. Rowling's first adult fiction novel, The Casual Vacancy, is released today, and we know there are many Harry Potter fans out there in the H&H community.

Did you buy the book already? Have you started it? Have you finished it?

What do you think about J.K. Rowling's foray into grown-up territory?

The premise just seems so blah to me that even though I'm a rabid HP fan (the kind who bought the special edition trunk with all the books after I had most of them already), I don't think I'll buy this one. If the people who do buy it rave about its awesomeness, maybe then. Perhaps its comparing apples and oragnes, but when put up against the Harry Potter world, this book just seems boring.

I'm going to give it a try. I didn't read any of her Harry Potter books (and I fell asleep while watching the first movie and didn't bother watching the rest). So, I'm not a raving fan or anything. I'm willing to give her book a look though.

I pre-ordered mine on Amazon way back in April when they were first made available. I'm a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and I think Rowling is a gifted writer and storyteller. I'm very much looking forward to reading this one and all the reviews I've seen so far imply that she does not disappoint.

@jrojrojro @SassyT @AshleyG -- I never got into HP, but I respect it a lot, so I'm curious about how her adult book will do with fans of the series. If/when you read it, you'll have to come back and let us know what you thought!

I obtained a copy through my library two days ago; I read the first twenty pages and admit to not being pulled in. I'll have to hear some pretty good things about the remainder of the book to give it another try. So many books, so little time ....
