Cover Alert: Details on Marissa Meyer’s Cinder Sequel, Scarlet, Have Been Revealed!

Scarlet by Marissa MeyerThe cover of Marissa Meyer’s Scarlet, the sequel to Cinder and the second book in the Lunar Chronicles quartet, has been revealed by USA Today. They’ve also got some scoop on the book, including an interview with Marissa and an excerpt from Scarlet, which is due out in early 2013.

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

Marissa Meyer reimagined Cinderella as a teenage cyborg mechanic in her debut novel Cinder earlier this year, and with her new follow-up Scarlet, Little Red Riding Hood is a firebrand from France.

...

Cinder reappears in the next futuristic tweaking of a familiar fairy tale — as does Prince Kai, the evil lunar ruler Queen Levana, and a heap of intergalactic intrigue.

Read the rest at USA Today’s Book Buzz blog, and let us know what you think. (Personally, I’m excited, especially to find out what’s next for Cinder and Kai, ’cause that relationship cliffhanger was brutal, though in the best possible way.)

And if you haven’t already, do check out Marissa’s H&H post on princes worthy of a fairy tale for some insight into her favorite fictional princes and some reading recommendations to tide you over until Scarlet’s out.

@taragel -- I know, me too! And hey, glad I could return the favor; you've introduced me to lots of great stuff over the years.

Cinder was one of the 2 YAs I read in the past year (the other being Ann Aguirre's Enclave) and I am so excited to find out what happens in this book. The cover suggests an ehtereal storyline -where Cinder's hinted at a "hard" tale. Interested to see if that is in fact the case. Thanks for sharing!

...I've just realized that this isn't in fact going to be a continuation of Cinder in a traditional sense. It's an entirely new tale.

This is what I get for seeing something new & shiny and instantly wanting to comment.

Oooh. I like it! I've got Cinder waiting on my shelf. I need to hurry up and read it before Scarlet comes out. Is Scarlet going to have her own hero?

@TheSpinecracker -- No worries! It is very shiny. :) And from Marissa's comments, it sounds like Cinder's story is going to be a large part of the others' books. I know I need some resolution for her (and Kai!).

@GlassSlipper -- I highly recommend Cinder. I actually decided to start rereading it last night after I wrote this post. And yes, I believe Scarlet will have her own hero...

@TheSpinecracker: I read Ann Aguirre's Enclave as well. Still waiting for the second book.

I liked Cinder. The ending was certainly a cliffhanger and I was kind of mad it ended at that. I need some resolution with Kai/Cinder and also with Cinder (and where she went). Can't wait for it to come out. It's been a while since I read the first one.
