The CW Previews Beauty and the Beast and Arrow

The CW has released extended trailers for its new Fall 2012 TV shows, including Beauty and the Beast (a reimagining of the 1980s show starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton) and Arrow (as in, the DC Comics character Green Arrow), both of which may prove relevant to our interests here at H&H.

Beauty and the Beast stars Kristin Kreuk as Detective Catherine Chandler (Beauty) and Jay Ryan as Vincent Koslow (Beast), while Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) and Katie Cassidy as Dinah “Laurel” Lance (Black Canary?!). Given the popularity of fairy tales and comic-book heroes (like Avengers archer Hawkeye) right now, these two show may really catch on. Take a look at these and let me know—could you see yourself ’shipping Vincent/Catherine and/or Oliver/Laurel come the new season?

Both look AMAZING. It looks like it'll be a good year.

I never liked the original B&B series, don't remember much about it, but this one seems much better thought out with an intriguing backstory. If I had to choose only one, though, I'd pick ARROW because it captured me immediately. (the murdered mom/pretty girl becomes cop trope has been overdone in recent years.)

@Allison_Brennan -- I'm most excited about Arrow too. I was not a Lana Lang fan in Smallville, so will be interested to see if I like KK's Beauty.

I do believe these shows will be on my Fall DVR schedule. Thanks for sharing. I was a huge fan of the original B&B (My husband and I would snuggle and watch it together), so I'm interested in seeing the rebooted franchise.

Wasn't Katie Cassidy the original Ruby on SUPERNATURAL for seasons 2 and 3? Before Lilith killed her and she came back as the other Ruby (who I just couldn't stand!!!) The new Ruby has grown on me. I loved the original Ruby :)

@Allison_Brennan -- Looks like it! Found this picture:

Okay, now I'm super curious about Laurel and whether Black Canary will come into play too. I'd think with the popularity of Black Widow right now this would be a no-brainer. I know I'd be even more interested in Arrow with a female superhero(ine) as a main character too.

@darlenemarshall -- I'll be giving both a shot too. Will be interested to hear what you and other fans of the original B&B think of this new version.

I loved the original B&B (I was only a tween when it came on). I'm not sure if I'm going to like the new one (since I can still see the old one in my head) but I'm going to give it a try. I'm a little disappointed they didn't bring back the guy who played the Green Arrow on Smallville but I guess I understand why they wanted a new guy to play him. Depending on when these come on, I'll probably watch them (if there's a conflict with another show I watch then I'll have to catch them On Demand).

I'm gonna go all geek girl here. I'm a huge Smallville fan and Oliver Queen was by far my favorite character in the series. When I heard about Arrow I thought it was a spin-off and expected Justin Hartley in the role. When I found out he wasn't I was pissed. I had to research why he was replaced and learned that Arrow is not a Smallville spin-off but a completely new world. The creators of Smallville had to sign off on it (which they didn't) and the network invested 10 years on the world surrounding Oliver. To go in a different direction opened up a lot of doors for them creatively.

After discovering that the hottie now playing Oliver Queen wasn't replacing my Ollie but rather portraying a new version of him I decided I'll give it a shot. The trailer looked good but I was jaded about it. So glad geek mode went into overdrive and I researched it. *grins* If not, I wouldn't have given it a chance even though I lurve Katie Cassidy (Hot Ruby as my brother and I refer to her Supernatural character). End of geeky rant.

@SassyT -- Yeah, I'm not sure either one will be must-see TV for me right away, but I'm looking forward to giving both a try. Arrow, especially, I think might be something I grow to really like.

@missmelthomas -- Geeky rants always welcome! I know several people who were disappointed to learn this would be a new version with a new actor, so you are far from alone (as you probably already know after your research!). That said, like you pointed out, this allows them to try some new things, which might turn out to be pretty cool. Guess we'll see, huh? *crosses fingers*

It kills me to say this but I probably won't be checking out B&tB. I love B&tB and almost any retelling of it I will watch/read and enjoy. However I won't be checking out this version. I hated the Lana character on Smallville and most of it was because the writers loved her character so much that they made it the Lana show (IMO). Because of that it ruined the actress for me and I won't watch anything she's in no matter how much I might enjoy it.

Arrow though I will be checking out.

@RachelHyland -- Yay!

@Desiree M. -- I don't blame you at all; Lana was a big reason I stopped watching Smallville. You'll have to let me know what you think of Arrow this fall, though!
