Welcome to the first meeting to discuss June’s book club pick, Darynda Jones’s First Grave on the Right! We wanted something with humor, and this book has it in spades. Here’s the blurb:
Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.
From the first paragraph, you know you’re in for a helluva ride.
Charlotte Jean Davidson, aka Charley Davidson (yes, poor girl, that’s her name) is the Grim Reaper, but she’s also a totally charming, sassy chick you’d like to have as your bestie (if you were okay with your bestie being a Reaper, and all that).
"Death via extreme pelasure was a serious concern. The prospect letd to the following dilemma: Do I seek help or buy drinks all around?
The wit and acerbity fly non-stop from Charley’s brain and mouth, and she handles what life throws her with aplomb, if the occasional stumble.
What are your first thoughts on the book? Do you find Charley charming or not? What’s your favorite part thus far? Your least favorite part? Are you already a paranormal romance fan, or is this your first foray into the genre? If this were made into a movie, who should play Charley (we’ll ask the same thing in later discussions, after we’ve finally met Reyes).
Discuss any and everything in comments!
