E-books have really changed the game as far as discovering new authors and new types of stories. Publishers are experimenting with a variety of ways to deliver stories to readers. Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand series is one of those publishers finding new ways to deliver to readers.
I first learned about 1Night Stand last year via the release of Jessica E. Subject’s sci-fi romance, Celestial Seduction. This short story features an emotionally and sexually charged encounter between a human woman and an alien male. The hero is an alien in disguise, so this story offers readers the chance to indulge their taste for exotic sexual adventures.
Here’s the story blurb:
At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun, where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.
Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.
In short (heh!), I thought it was a great way to try out a new-to-me author. The other great thing about this series is that it features erotic romances from all the various subgenres. My go-to subgenre is science fiction romance, but there are plenty of stories for those who like contemporary, paranormal, GLBT, and more.
Here’s the basic set-up: 1Night Stand is a fictional, online dating service run by the mysterious Madame Evangeline. Each story in the series is anchored by the hero and heroine meeting as a result of using Madame Evangeline’s service.
Jessica E. Subject has several other 1Night Stand stories available, including Unknown Futures, a cute futuristic f/f romance.
The most recent science fiction romance to emerge from the series is Diane Dooley’s Mako’s Bounty (March 13, 2012). This story focuses on the adventures of savvy bounty hunter Mako and her prey, a sexy space pirate known as “The Saint.” It’s a fun romp with witty dialogue, an interracial romance, and a splash of humor.
Here’s the story blurb:
For nine long months, at the behest of the evil Ravenscorp, Mako Dolan has been hunting the space pirate they call The Saint. Now she’s finally lured her prey to a one night stand with a mysterious woman—herself. But Vin Sainte is not at all what she expected. Far from being a ruthless space pirate, his main occupation seems to be rescuing nuns, adopting orphans and praying like a champ.
For nine long months Vin Sainte has been fleeing the bounty hunter from one temporary refuge to the next. Now he’s got Mako exactly where he wants her: weak from gravity sickness and ripe for conversion. Problem is he didn’t expect a foul-mouthed, hard-as-nails bounty hunter to be such a devoted daughter. His head on a platter is Ravenscorp’s price for her mother’s freedom.
They have less than twenty four hours. One will win; one will lose. Mako might be a fearsome predator, but Vin has the Lord on his side. Who will win the bounty?
And there’s more where that came from: Here’s a list of current and forthcoming 1Night Stand titles. Indulge yourself!
