Valentine’s Day Gifts for The Hero or Heroine in Your Life

Chocolates, Flowers, and WineValentine’s Day—gifts of flowers, chocolate, and fancy dinners out abound. But what if you have found your true love, and you want to go beyond the traditional gifts to find something really special—not to mention a gift that will keep your true love true?

If you met your true love within the pages of a romantic suspense novel, chances are relatively good that there was some electronics malfunction at some point during the course of the novel. To prevent your true love from ever having to venture to some attractive neighbor’s door, how about getting a hand-crank emergency cell phone charger? He’ll never lose power when being chased by the bad guys, or need to locate that handy assassin who also happens to be killer in bed.

We cannot, however, guarantee you’ll always have a signal. There are some things money just can’t buy.

For the paranormal hero and heroine, how about a set of matching nose clips?!

Nose plug via AmazonYou and your mate got together because of shared hormones. He could sniff you out—especially if he’s a werewolf!—and he knew you were his because of how you smelled. So what’s to prevent him from going after some other babe with a dab of bacon under each ear? A pair of nose clips! You can keep him from sniffing after someone else, so to speak, if he can’t smell anything (this applies to vampires, too, who seem to sniff out pheromones and blood, series depending). The bonus there is that he won’t be able to tell if you haven’t washed your hair in a few days.

Historical heroes and heroines deserve some financial security. After all, how many novels have the hero and heroine gotten together because one or both of them was in tough financial straits and needed to marry? Instead of relying on the old family estate, how about setting up an IRA for your loved one? You can invest all the money you would have spent on keeping up appearances and invest in the future instead. Because nothing says “I love you” more than a gift to keep them off the Marriage Mart.

Emergency KitContemporary romance heroes and heroines often get together because of a “cute-meet”: They share a name, and bump into each other at the DMV clearing up a traffic ticket, or they have best friends who are getting married and they wind up being the only sober ones at the engagement party, or one of them is the server at the restaurant where the other gets dumped. Short of forbidding the loved one to leave the house (in which case they will become a romantic suspense character in short order, fleeing their imprisoner), the best you can do is be prepared for any zany eventuality, and prepare a Zany Emergency Kit: ponytail holders, chocolate, a spare pair of sneakers, tire repair equipment, a cup of sugar, and a guide to Eastern philosophy (what? It could help!).

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given or received?

Good stuff! Maybe for a romantic suspense hero you could also spring for a weekend away--the better to *comfortably* hide from dangerous enemies in future.
