Maid to Take the Throne: Downton Abbey Actress Joins Game of Thrones Cast

Rose Leslie in Downton AbbeyIt’s the coolest casting news we’ve heard in a while: former Downton Abbey co-star Rose Leslie has been cast in Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones. And you know how we at H&H love both our Downton Abbey and our Game of Thrones...

Leslie—who in Downton played a maid with ambitions to become, as she eventually did, a secretary—has been cast as Wildling woman Ygritte in Game of Thrones. Ygritte is the pug-nosed, muscled, warrior-woman that Jon Snow meets as a member of the Night’s Watch. Can you see Leslie as a dity, spear-wielding woman of the wild, or do the casting directors know about as much as Jon Snow?

I would imagine the casting of this part had as much to do with the willingness to take off one's top, as to portray a wildling warrior woman.

@ksb36 That's a darn good point! I think I also recall Ygritte had fair coloring, as Rose Leslie does. And both are cute, although the former is a lot dirtier than the latter.

I think this will work really well. I gotta say, for the most part, GOT/ASOIAF casting has been excellent. So they know something, at least!
