Beauty Gets a Makeover? Beauty and the Beast to Return to Television?

Beauty and the Beast

You’d think we’d be inured to this kind of thing by now—but no, our hearts fell a smidge when we saw the news that there are plans afoot to reboot Beauty and the Beast, the ’80s show starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.

The new version is described as a “modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist.” Whatever that means.

On one hand, some of the folks who did the original show are on-board with this version, too, so perhaps it will be able to retain some of what made the first version so memorable. And there’s Star Trek and Battlestar Galactic, both of which were relaunched to success.

On the other hand, there’s Bionic Woman, Hawaii 5-0, Beverly Hills 90210, and Melrose Place.

So, yeah. What do you think?

If they're still using maskage, I vote for Perlman as Beast. And a middle-aged heroine played by...me. Yeah, that works. Sign me up. It will be interesting, in this decade, if they actually get around to *doing it* at least off camera, since all the paranormal romances have no problem working it in. Disney fans might be a little shocked and disoriented. Hah!

I second Pearlman's return.

I'm thinking the "procedural" means that Beauty is going to be detective, so I guess that makes Beauty, Elisa and Beast, Goliath, and the rest of this show Gargoyles...Ok my 90s upbringing is coming out, I'm going to stop now...

It's funny, because this reboot idea has actually already kinda sorta been done by...ABC, I think. Beast wasn't literally a beast in Boston's Finest, but there were lots of parallels to Beauty and the Beast. Unfortunately, the pilot didn't get picked up--which is a shame, 'cause Katee Sackhoff was the lead.

I wonder what "procedural" will mean. She's a policewoman/detective/bounty hunter? Something along those lines? Then again, Katherine was in the DA's office before, so it's not that much of a stretch, really.

Ron won't be back, he's busy on Sons of Anarchy and likely to remain there.

Okay, what if HE's the Beauty and SHE's the Beast? Whooha! Let's see... Chris Hemsworth? Joe Manganiello? Isaiah Mustafa? Mmmm yeah... I'd watch!
